We are looking for 10 hours a week with more hours during school holidays.
Job Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to provide personalised care and support to a young girl diagnosed with mental health illness as well as being on the Autism Spectrum. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mental health issues affecting children and adolescents, along with the ability to provide emotional support and assistance with daily activities. This role requires patience, empathy, and a commitment to improving the well-being and quality of life of the individual.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Personalised Support: Offer one-on-one support tailored to the specific needs and preferences of the young girl, including emotional support, companionship, and encouragement.
Assist with Daily Activities: Help with daily tasks such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication reminders, and household chores, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
Promote Independence: Encourage and support the development of independence skills while fostering a sense of empowerment and autonomy.
Maintain Confidentiality: Respect and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, adhering to professional standards and regulations at all times.
Collaborate with Team Members: Work collaboratively with other Support Workers, healthcare professionals, educators, and family members to provide holistic care and support.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents with mental health issues is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with the individual and their support network.
- Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental attitude towards mental health challenges.
- Basic understanding of mental health conditions and their impact on daily functioning.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the individual and their environment.
- Relevant certifications or training in mental health support, caregiving, or related fields are advantageous.
Working Conditions: This position involves working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of the individual and their family. The work environment may vary, including home-based care, community outings, and healthcare facilities.
