Founded 41 years ago, NT Friendship & Support is a not-for-profit organisation with locations in Alice Springs, Darwin, and a head office in Katherine. Our services assist and support individuals and families living with a disability, provide personalised employment support and deliver out-of-home care for children. We also recruit, train, and Support Workers, carers, and volunteers to work in our communities.
About the Role
Working with people not for them, in this role, you will support clients of NT Friendship & Support to work towards achieving their individual goals in a strength-based, person-centred approach. You will provide high-quality supports for clients accessing Supported Independent Living services, and you will support our clients to access and participate in the community based on their needs and goals.

Skills and Experience
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality support for clients accessing Supported Independent Living services
- Providing or assisting with personal care, such as toileting, showering, feeding, and dressing when required
- Supporting the development of independent living skills such as cooking, domestic and social skills
- Administering medication and adhering to individual support plans
- Completing clear, concise, and factual handover notes, case notes, and incident reports
- Assisting clients to engage in their local community and culture through access to community participation programs and recreational activities
- Transportation of clients to engage in community participation programs, appointments, and daily living tasks
- Support clients to attend appointments when required
- Supporting clients to exercise choice and control
- Mentoring and Skill development – guiding clients to explore and develop their personal interests and hobbies
- Be willing to be available to work a 24/7 roster which included mornings, nights, afternoons, evenings, awake shifts, sleepovers, and weekend shifts
- Ensure services provided are in line with all NDIA Quality and Safeguards practices
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience as a Support Worker/carer in the community services sector
- Understanding of strength-based, person-centred practice
- Understanding of Restrictive Practices and the guiding principles
- Understanding the barriers that people living with a disability face
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
Desired Criteria / Qualifications:
- Minimum of Certificate III in Disability Services or equivalent or relevant industry experience
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate - or willingness to obtain one
- Previous experience as a Support Worker/carer in the community services sector

- NDIS Worker Screening Check
