About ONCALL
ONCALL Group Australia is a leading provider in Disability and Community Support Services. Our vision is to be nationally recognised as the leading integrated community service provider, delivering peace of mind.
We are continuing to grow, with teams located across Queensland, Victoria, and NSW. At ONCALL you will be making a difference and be working alongside a team who love helping others.
About the role
We are currently seeking compassionate and experienced Disability Support Workers to join our team in the Sippy Downs / Nambour area. In this role you will be providing support to clients with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and dementia.
Motor neurone disease means that messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how people walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
Acquired brain injury (ABI) is damage to the brain that can result from many different causes such as injury, illness or drug and alcohol abuse. After having an ABI, you could experience symptoms including weakness, seizures, memory problems and/or emotional changes.
Supporting clients with MND or ABI requires an empathetic approach, string relationship building skills and the ability to communicate very clearly.
You will be supported by an experienced team leader and have access to additional training to manage the complexities of this role.
Ongoing opportunities are available – so if you are looking for stability and consistency, this could be the right fit for you.
How will I help?
You will be empowering clients to achieve their goals and supporting them with individual care needs in areas such as wellbeing, housekeeping, personal care, meal preparation, daily activities, and community participation. You must like dogs, as you will also be assisting with animal care, including walking a dog.
What do I need?
- Ability to manage 1:1 shifts
- A minimum of 6 months local work experience in the Disability Sector.
- Practical experience working with high challenging behaviours is essential – MAYBO training highly regarded.
- Experience and comfort assisting with Manual Handling and all Personal Care requirements is essential.
- Experience supporting clients with progressive neurological diseases or end of life/palliative care will be highly regarded.
- A Certificate III in Individual Support or a Certificate IV in Disability is preferred.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and current Blue Card.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
