Eligibility: Open to EveryoneAbout the Role:Duties of RoleThe District Field Officer is a dynamic position, playing a practical role in assisting landholders to better manage their natural resources. The role is part of the Riverland District team, whose primary objective is to provide support to the local community in managing their natural resources, particularly in the areas of pest plant and animal management.You will be responsible for the development and delivery of on ground works, activities and minor projects, working across both public and private lands, protecting ecological and agricultural assets. To achieve this you will need to be able to develop strong relationships and networks, adapting your engagement and communication styles to suit. You will also have an understanding of the challenges the local community are facing.As part of the Riverland District team, you will be working alongside other motivated team members for support. You will be expected to be effective at managing your own time, and maintaining a level of safety whilst working independently.A reasonable level of on the job training will be provided in the specialist areas. It is expected that you will have basic proficiency in the suite of Microsoft products, and considered an advantage if you have an understanding of mapping and data collection systems. This role can be flexible, including part time. We encourage applicants to discuss options when applying.About the RegionMurraylands & RiverlandThe Murraylands & Riverland region covers approximately 53,780 square kilometres from the Victorian and New South Wales borders to the western Mallee at the foot of the Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges.The region forms the south-western portion of the Murray-Darling catchment into which the River Murray flows. The River Murray supplies the majority of the water needs for the city of Adelaide and surrounding towns. Much of the land is used for primary production, including pastoral lands, dryland cropping, grazing, horticulture, irrigation and dairy farming. There are also ecosystems that are of state, national and international significance, including the Ramsar-listed Chowilla Floodplain, the Coorong and Lower Lakes. The natural resources of the region also support tourism, recreation and manufacturing.The Traditional Owner groups include Ngarrindjeri, the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region, Peramangk, Ngadjuri, and Wilyakali.Key Role Outcomes

  • Sound relationships and networks are established with landholders and the community to provide best practice technical advice and support that assists with species identification, and planning and management of landscapes.
  • Priority threat abatement on-ground works, activities and minor projects, which address existing and potential issues, are planned, managed and delivered on time and to budget.
  • Landscape restoration programs are effectively implemented and maintained through cooperative community involvement in threatened species management, fire management, threat abatement and pest plant and animal control.
  • As an Authorised Officer, potential compliance issues on public and private properties are identified, documented, managed and resolved through effective liaison with landholders.
  • Annual business plans achieved in line with expected delivery objectives and operational guidelines.

Contract:
Contract for up to 12 MonthsQualifications:An appropriate tertiary qualification in natural resources management, park management, environmental science, agricultural science or equivalent is desirable.Special Conditions:
  • The incumbent is required to work alone in a field environment, including working in adverse conditions from time to time.
  • Must hold a current drivers’ licence and be prepared to undertake 4WD training.
  • Some out of hours work, intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home and attendance at public meetings out of normal office hours may be required.
  • All staff are encouraged to wear the appropriate uniform in any public setting to represent the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape region in a professional manner.
  • The incumbent must be willing to undertake and satisfactorily complete within a reasonable period of commencing in the role accredited training that relates to the administration of the Landscape South Australian Act 2019 and other relevant legislation.
  • May be required to work on weekends and public holidays for which a loading will be paid.
  • This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the Department requiring you to obtain a National Police Clearance (NPC).
Remuneration:
