We are on the lookout for someone with proven experience of working within the Domestic and Family Violence space, with the demonstrated ability to quickly build rapport and work collaboratively within diverse teams. Our ideal candidate will also have a comprehensive knowledge of the issues affecting families and individuals experiencing Domestic and Family Violence, child abuse, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.

The CatholicCare Central Queensland and Helem Yumba Domestic & Family Violence Response program provides a range of collaborative and person-centred support interventions to adults, children and young people who are experiencing, or who are at risk of experiencing, Domestic and Family Violence. The partnership between CatholicCare and Helem Yumba is a first for our region, ensuring that all Domestic and Family Violence supports are provided in a culturally safe way. CatholicCare Central Queensland is a leading community service provider operating across a wide geographic area. Servicing the Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg and Central Highlands regions, we specialise in the delivery of quality social services including aged care, disability care, counselling, psychology, family relationship support and mediation, Domestic and Family Violence response, and domestic Violence Court Support.

Primary Objective

The Domestic and Family Violence Court Support Specialist aims to provide support to people (predominantly women) who experience Domestic and Family Violence and who have court proceedings before the magistrates' court in relation to Domestic and Family violence matters. The support is provided to assist clients to be aware of the court process and understand the meaning of domestic violence orders and other court actions. Services are delivered in alignment with the Queensland Government Domestic and Family Violence Investment Specifications.

The Specific services to be delivered either in individual or group settings generally include:

• Provision of specialist knowledge to assist the court process

• Undertaken risk assessments with clients and support the preparation of application for domestic violence orders and variations/revocations of existing orders

• Support clients with debriefing, support, and referral to other supports

• Liaison with court staff, police and advocacy on behalf of the client (both individually and jointly)

At no time can legal advice be provided to clients and all advice must be constrained to the general process of the court and referral to appropriate agency.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or equivalent Social work or Domestic Violence (Desired)

• 5 Years experience with case management or similar supports

• Current C class Driver’s license (QLD)

Core Competencies

• Knowledge and understanding of Queensland Court System (specific understanding around Domestic and Family Violence )

• Case Management of people interacting with DFV court system

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to apply these to individual client situations within the guideline of the DFV service.

• Interpersonal skills – the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals

The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate entitlement to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.

All offers of employment are subject to the satisfactory completion of relevant screening and background checks, including an Australian Federal Police check, an NDIS disability worker screening check, and attainment of a Blue Card for working with children, prior to commencement.
