ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT
Strong Women Talking is a grass roots movement of First Nations sisters and aunties who are passionate about preventing and breaking the cycle of violence by creating a culturally safe space to educate, equip and empower women. Our goals are to support women and children in community through various gender based, DFV prevention programs.
ABOUT THE JOB
This position is responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of Healing Journey workshops across Brisbane LGA and some parts of greater Brisbane LGA. This position will provide Leadership for the Advocacy and Prevention Team, consisting of Case Managers and Facilitators, including both employees and contractors. Responsible for the evaluation of programs and professional education designed to create healthier, safer and more equal communities for First Nation women in Qld. Knowledge and expertise in the field of First Nations Gender Equity &/or Primary Prevention of Violence will be highly advantageous, as will strong communication, leadership and planning skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Working independently and in collaboration with other staff to:
- Develop, plan, coordinate, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic, psychoeducation and support groups on a range of topics aimed to support First Nation women’s recovery from experiences of gendered violence, in particular the Healing Journey Program and Sisters Connect.
- Establish the most appropriate operational methods for the delivery of groups.
- Prepare program budgets, monitor expenditure, reconcile and report on budgets related to group workshops.
- Provide, where required, client-centred trauma-informed case management services to SWT clients, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities to people who have experienced domestic, family, sexual and other forms of gendered violence.
- Provide appropriate referral services to SWT clients if another organisation can better meet the client’s needs.
- Assess clients’ needs to ensure appropriate support is provided to clients.
- Identify and foster beneficial partnerships to enhance, deliver and extend the services SWT offer.
- Develop and deliver professional education to external stakeholders.
- Attend and engage all relevant stakeholder meetings and events
- Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles.
- Adherence to best-practice counselling, case management, group delivery, health promotion and education frameworks.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports.
- Provide and assist with establishing organisation programs and procedures.
- Provide expert advice and supervision to employees classified at a lower level and volunteers.
- Contribute to the planning, implementation, and revision for continuous quality improvement of SWT service delivery projects and programs providing FIrst Nations women’s gendered violence information, education, and building client capacity and self-resilience.
- Escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels.

ESSENTIAL
- Due to the nature of the role, only female applicants are eligible.
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
- Valid Drivers’ License
- Current National Police Check
- Current Blue Card (or willing to obtain)
- Ability to commit to travel within Australia as required
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willing to obtain)
ABOUT YOU
- Experience and demonstrated understanding of issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities
- A relevant Bachelor or post graduate degree in Counselling\ Social work\ Psychology and eligibility for registration Australian Association of Social workers (AASW) &/or with APHRA.
- 2 years minimum experience in your professional discipline with extensive experiencing supporting women who have experienced gendered violence.
- Current Blue Card.
- Evidence of recent case management, group facilitation, group planning and development or clinical experience working within a community health and or social services setting engaging with vulnerable client groups, including trauma-informed care.
- High level skills in assessment, case planning and management, and working in partnership with families and local service networks.
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the DFV service systems including government and non-government organisations.
- In depth understanding of the highly developed gendered analysis of First Nation women’s issues and the effects of domestic and Family Violence and/or sexual violence.
- Experience and demonstrated understanding, of culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with diverse genders, people with disabilities and other vulnerable and or disadvantaged groups within the context of health and wellbeing.
- Understanding or ability to acquire knowledge swiftly of federal and state-based legislation including domestic and Family Violence, sexual violence, and child protection legislation relevant to service delivery.
- An ability and commitment to creating a positive work environment and strong organisational culture while contributing to the development and achievement of the goals and visions of the organisation.
