About the Role
This position is responsible for educating and supporting young people and staff of the AYAS in relation to alcohol and other drug use utilising a prevention and harm minimisation approach.
This role is offered on a fixed term, part-time basis of 0.8 FTE (4 days per week) and would ideally be commencing in late March/early April. This role will be providing parental leave cover.
As a Drug Education and Support Worker, the roles and responsibilities will be:
- Complete an alcohol and other drug use assessment at intake as part of each resident’s overall assessment.
- Contribute to the development of each resident’s care plan through including strategies to address any existing alcohol and other drug use issues and monitor progress towards achieving mutually agreed goals.
- Liaise with specific alcohol and other drug organisations to provide additional support to clients as required.
- Develop and facilitate a range of interactive leisure programs for the residents to provide opportunities for them to participate in ‘healthy lifestyle’ activities.
- Develop and facilitate a range of Drug Education workshops to promote awareness around the impact of drug use and support services available.
- Outreach support provided to internal and external services and young people.
In order to be successful for this role, the applicant will have:
- Significant experience in Youth Work, or an Associate Certificate/Diploma in Youth Work, addiction studies or other relevant qualifications.
- Understanding and experience in case management and advocacy for youth and families.
- Ability to communicate with and respond to youth and families and to maintain boundaries.
- Willingness to develop skills through further professional development in working therapeutically with youth and their families.
- Ability to document and report incidents and behaviour succinctly and objectively.
