About our Early Learning Centre
Toorak’s Early Learning Centre provides Kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs (3-5 days) to three and four year old children. Our bespoke curriculum, inspired by Reggio Emilia philosophies, supports our young people as they start their educational journey setting them up for a lifetime of learning.
Recognising the innate curiosity and potential in every child, encouraging each child to be strong, capable and resilient as they seek to understand the world and their place in it, is at the heart of everything we do here at Toorak College.
The Toorak Early Learning program is complemented by Specialist classes in Creative Arts, STEM-X, Health & Wellbeing, Language & Cultural Appreciation and Performing Arts. These classes are run each week and taught by Specialist Teachers.
Our Early Learning Centre has achieved an “Exceeding” rating across all 7 quality areas of the National Quality Standard Assessment.
Under the guidance of Dianna McKellar, Head of ELC and Melissa Schoorman, Head of Wardle House, Deputy Principal, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a high performing team within a beautiful school community.
Role and Responsibilities:
This part time, permanent role will see the successful candidate working in our Early Learning Centre three (3) days per week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, during term time only. Your daily tasks will include:
- Assisting the Kindergarten teacher with the implementation of the Early Childhood Program
- Engaging and working alongside children and families to support learning outcomes.
- Working with individuals and groups of children to support and document their learning via observations and critical reflections.
- Engaging in professional discussions about the learning program and continuous improvement.
- Maintaining the Early Learning Centre environment, resources and equipment to optimize learning and safety
- Understanding and working according to Early Learning Centre Policies
- Assisting with administration duties as required.
- Ensuring the health and safety of all children.
- Dedicated experience supporting programs in Kindergarten (school, community ot private early childhood) settings
- A Diploma of Childcare qualification
- Knowledge of the principles of Reggio Emilia and how to support Reggio Emilia teaching practices
- A highly collaborative approach
- Outstanding communication skills and an ability to connect with students, parents and staff
- Awareness of the regulations associated with the early education and care industry
- Beautiful Mornington Peninsula location – walk to the beach on your lunch break.
