About the Emergency Department
Located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Malvern, Cabrini ED is a FACEM-run department that focuses on excellence in patient care through our values of compassion, integrity, courage, and respect.
We are a well-resourced department which has been operational for over 20 years, with yearly attendances of over 25,000 and a 40 percent admission rate reflective of high patient complexity and acuity. We expanded in 2019 to 28-beds with intra-departmental X-ray, CT, and ultrasound. We enjoy a highly collegiate relationship with our inpatient specialist colleagues making referrals a smooth experience.
Our onsite pathology service has rapid turnaround times on most investigations and access to all diagnostic imaging modalities is hassle-free.
We are an ACEM accredited training site and are affiliated with Monash University for medical student education. We have a strong focus on education, patient experience, quality improvement, and innovation with FACEMs holding portfolios dedicated to these areas in addition to significant on-the-floor clinical presence. We offer in-house ACLS and neonatal resuscitation training and have multi-disciplinary in-situ simulation sessions. We also have a dedicated nursing-led patient follow-up phone call service that contacts all our discharged patients.
How you will make an impact
We are seeking casual ED registrars to assist with our night roster as the second doctor assisting the registrar-in-the charge of the department (with the support of an on-call FACEM). We average less than 10 new patients per night shift (2230-0800) and have 5 ED medical staff on site until midnight, making for a manageable night shift.
This role would suit registrars:
looking to supplement their income without having to travel far from Melbourne
undertaking a non-ED term looking to keep their ED skills up to date
taking a break from training in order to prepare for examinations
seeking experience in the private ED setting prior to undertaking a formal accredited private ED placement
Key responsibilities will include:
Providing clinical care to all ED patients including assessment, diagnosis, management, and procedures
Ensuring a high-quality experience for patients and their families
Committing to a minimum of two nights shifts per month
About You
Along with your expertise and experience in emergency medicine, you will also meet the following criteria:
Required
Current full registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
Training stage 1 status and above with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine
High quality and professionalism of communication in all its forms
Desirable
Private emergency medicine experience
