Atwell College is seeking to employ a highly motivated and proactive Education Assistant - Auslan to join their team.
As an Education Assistant - Auslan, you would be an Auslan interpreter in a range of secondary classroom settings, including mainstream subjects and the Inclusive Education Program. You may also interpret events such as school camps, theatre performances, assemblies, and staff meetings. Education Assistants - Auslan provide support to the classroom, school, and community to ensure high quality learning programs are provided in an inclusive learning environment. This role can also include working in small groups to tutor students with teacher direction. The successful applicant would be a part of a supportive and experienced Deaf Education Team and will liaise with staff to advocate for students' accessibility needs to provide the best possible learning outcomes.
The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience working as an Auslan interpreter, and possess competency in interpreting from English to Auslan, as well as Auslan to English. Having connection to, or involvement with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community would be highly regarded. The successful applicant would ideally work collaboratively in a team and build positive relationships with staff and students. The successful applicant should possess flexibility, professionalism, and a "can do" attitude.
Atwell College is a modern and progressive government secondary school in the suburb of Atwell, south of the Perth metropolitan area. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, teachers and community members and where necessary assist teachers in understanding students.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to contribute to a professional team and deliver an effective education program.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relevant to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
