We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Defence Force Transition Aide for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2025.
As the Education Assistant - Defence Force Transition Aide your role is to assist the teacher in delivering planned education programs and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will ideally provide quality educational services to students to assist them to acquire knowledge and understanding, to pursue special interests, strive to achieve excellence, and develop social and vocational skills. Other responsibilities will be to act in a liaison role between the school, Department of Defence and the Defence Force Community in order to assist in the development of an education program that meets the needs of Australian Defence Force (ADF) children.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, including collaboration and liaison skills within the workplace and community.
- Effective time management skills, including attention to detail and the ability to meet conflicting deadlines.
- Practical experience in working autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Understanding of the ADF organisation and additional challenges the posting cycle places upon students from an ADF family.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within 3 months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within 6 months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
