Job description

  • Part-time 2 or 3 days per week until December 2024 with the Faculty of Medicine and Health 
  • Fantastic chance to work as an Education Designer in a collective and supportive team 
  • Base Salary $104,633 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity 

The respect and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages and knowledge systems in curricula is a key element of the One Sydney, Many People Strategy and the University’s commitment to a stronger and more accountable partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Developed through an extensive co-design process, the Strategy underlines the importance of embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages, and knowledge systems in university practice, particularly through the Indigenisation of curricula. The Faculty of Medicine and Health is committed to enhancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ engagement, participation, and leadership in teaching, learning and research through the development of a new foundational program on First Nations health. 

The Education Designer (Identified) provides education design support to the FMH Indigenous Curriculum Team who are designing a new foundational program on First Nations health. This role will partner with the faculty’s Indigenous Curriculum team working towards embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, texts, and media across Medicine and Health curriculum. The Education Designer (Identified) will work closely with the project team, the Associate Deans (Indigenous) and (Education) and schools and disciplines across the faculty developing new teaching and learning programs.  

Your key responsibilities will be to:  

  • work in partnership with the Indigenous Curriculum Team, providing learning design support to academic and professional staff team members that are developing Indigenous pedagogical, curriculum and assessment approaches

  • design creative student-centered learning experiences, both blended and online, that are focused on transforming curricula and integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, texts, and media

  • partner with the Indigenous Curriculum Team and Academic and teaching staff on instructional approaches, activities, and assessments that support student centered learning 

  • create, test, and implement online and classroom educational resources for staff and students using an LMS and other full range of other education technologies 

  • use your technical skills and judgement to identify problems, brainstorm and analyse answers, and implement the best solutions 

  • liaise with and build strong relationships with key staff and relevant stakeholders in the faculty and across the University.  

About you 

To be successful in this role you will: 

  • be able to use digital tools and platforms to support academic colleagues delivering online and in-person education (Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, HTML and CSS, desktop video recording and publishing)  

  • be a person that strives to develop and improve your own proficiency in using technology, and in recommending educational approaches, and so creating a positive impact for the faculty and University 

  • be able to understand stakeholders needs and expectations, and deliver an excellent service experience for Faculty staff, students, and the community 

  • enjoy thinking creatively about current challenges and opportunities to develop solutions, encouraging creative capacity in others to optimise outcomes for students, staff, and the faculty. 

  • demonstrate experience engaging with First Nations peoples and a high degree of cultural competency

  • utilise experience delivering education programs that include Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledge. Knowledge of First Nations pedagogies, ideally within the health space is desirable.  

This entails active engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge holders, adherence to cultural protocols, and adept navigation of cross-cultural interactions. These aspects are integral to the role and duly acknowledged by the university, recognising the role's significant contributions to Indigenous and Education strategies.
