Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian. 

A new role awaits

We have exciting positions available for EL1 Assistant Directors in the Aged Care Hospital Interface (ACHI) and Complex Support Needs (CSN) Branches. 

The Aged Care and Hospital Interface Branch is responsible for servicing several specialised cohorts of participants. These include participants living in or at risk of entering aged care under 65 years of age, participants diagnosed with MND, participants with terminal illness and disability, and supporting those in hospital to discharge.

The Complex Support Needs Branch provides specialised support for people with disability with additional complexity due to situational and personal factors. Roles within the branch may sit within the following teams: Complex Support Needs, Short Term Response, Children and Young People, Justice Planning, Justice Liaison, Operations.

You will be considered for all roles, however in the application form we will ask you to select a role and preferred location to understand your preferences.

Where you can add value

These positions are important team leadership roles within the NDIA and will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities of substantial depth involving significant detail.

Not every day will be the same and being adaptable is the key to success. Main elements of this role include:

Assistant Director Liaison (Health or Justice):

  • managing a team working in health or justice settings
  • leading internal and external consultation, staff awareness and representation of the NDIS in networking and cross-agency forums
  • collaborating with key stakeholders working across access, plan development and plan implementation
  • assisting in developing appropriate working arrangements for other government and community services, in line with bilateral transition agreements and working arrangements
  • leading internal engagement and representing the branch on working groups and information sharing exercises

Assistant Director Service Delivery:
  • implementing team strategies and aligning outcomes with the Agency’s and the branch’s broader strategic directions and performance targets
  • providing expertise and leading the implementation of Service Delivery activities across the branch
  • managing team performance and outputs to ensure Agency targets are met in relation to participants with complex needs
  • conducting and managing risk assessment and risk management activities within the team and broader branch 
  • identifying and leading business improvement initiatives that will enhance the quality and performance of outcomes for the branch, while also implementing effective change management strategies
  • resolving escalated issues and complaints in relation to participant plans

While these roles can be performed from Brisbane, Parramatta, Penrith, Darwin, Geelong, Dandenong, Adelaide, Modbury, Midland and Hobart, remote working arrangements may be considered.

We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
