Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian. 

New roles await
The Legal Practice and Capability Branch, in the Chief Counsel Division, provides operational support to the legal functions in both the Chief Counsel and General Counsel Divisions and the uplift of legal capability across the Agency. The Legal Practice and Capability Branch supports a range of operational activities within the division, including recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, strategic reporting and cross-divisional projects.

The NDIA is seeking experienced leaders at the EL1 level to support the Branch in the following teams:

Recruitment & Procurement team – EL1 Legal Procurement 
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to;

  • Leading a small team that is responsible to support to our legal divisions across the General Counsel Division - (Legal Services), and the Chief Counsel Division - (AAT Case Management, Dispute Resolution & Litigation, Legal Practice & Capability, Legislation and Legal Policy), together with their external legal services procurement requirements and all associated contract management and monitoring activities;
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders, including the Agency’s Procurement Branch, to establish outsourced external legal work orders using the Whole of Government Legal Services Panel and the Finance business partners to ensure appropriate reporting and budget processes are embedded into legal procurement practices; 
  • Implementing procurement and financial policies and procedures across the divisions and contributing and leading multiple forms of compliance and expenditure reporting; 
  • Leading and contributing to continuous business improvement projects and initiatives

EL1 Policy – EL1 Policy Officer 

Responsibilities include:-
  • Leading the development, review, and cyclical update of a wide range of standard operating procedures, policies, governance frameworks, and associated guidance materials, with a high level of collaboration across business units and specialist areas;
  • Developing effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, leading collaborative working groups and delivering tangible outcomes;
  • Working effectively under pressure and in a changing environment to deliver high quality advice and outcomes.
  • Utilising experience developing frameworks and policies and demonstrating experience in the Australian regulatory environment;

EL1 – Quality – EL1 Quality Officer
 
Responsibilities include:-
  • Manage high volumes of work to achieve business priorities and key performance indicators, whilst being accountable for monitoring emerging issues, identifying the impact of these on operational priorities and implementing agreed treatments;
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team, building both individual and team capacity to undertake their roles efficiently and professionally and meet the expected standards of service quality and consistency;
  • Work constructively with key internal and external stakeholders and support staff to effectively manage operational priorities, in a rapidly changing environment

The successful candidate will be innovative in leading the development and administrative management of new systems, processes and practical tools including guidance material and training for their team.  Experience preparing and reviewing written material including business cases, executive briefs and corporate documentation will be highly regarded.

While this role is ideally performed from ACT – Deakin, QLD – Brisbane, VIC – Geelong, VIC – Richmond, or SA – Adelaide, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months may be offered. 

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
