Overview
Reporting to the Technical Manager, your role is to assist in Electrical Engineering research, design, manufacture, construction, operation and maintenance of machines, manufacturing equipment, mechanical installations and facilities of high vacuum systems for Space, Quantum, and Renewable Energy research.
Critical to this role is to identify and engage with customers within Universities, Government, Defence and Aerospace to specify and fabricate systems to control thermal vacuum testing and thin film deposition applications operating within a laboratory environment.
Success will come from understanding the underlying technology and the customer requirements to build quality solutions. In this way we build customer satisfaction whilst also ensuring the whole Boson Engineering team is supported in the performance of their duties.
Requirements
Experience with product design and fabrication in an electrical / engineering / mechanical / scientific environment
Experience in PLC programming
Experience in Visual Basic, Python and other computer languages
Knowledge of high vacuum systems e.g. Thin Film Deposition, Thermal Vacuum Chamber, Helium leak testing will be advantageous
Knowledge of CAD software e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks or similar
Proficiency with the MS Office™ software suite
Knowledge of computer systems and networking
Excellent communication skills
Organizational ability / attention to detail / meets deadlines
Problem-solving aptitude and ability to work independently
Ability to follow procedures and comply with Occupational Health & Safety directives
Qualifications and working experience in an engineering or physical sciences area is mandatory
Responsibilities
Design, develop, fabricate, and test systems to control thermal vacuum and thin film deposition applications operating in a laboratory environment
Create and maintain system engineering documentation for internal (Boson Engineering) and external (customer) reference to include areas such as operating manuals, software design, error / fault logs, system components (vendor, serial numbers, firmware version etc)
Use knowledge of customer applications to enhance existing automation systems as well as to devise novel solutions
Prepare a budget for development work and manage the project to meet the budgetary expectations (in terms of timing, resources, and expenses)
Report issues in project development promptly to Boson Engineering management for advice / determination of remedial actions
Promptly respond to any customer issues with Boson Engineering supplied systems to ensure these are resolved, making site visits where required
Participate in industry events (trade exhibitions)
Provide training to Boson Engineering staff and to customers
Develop internal and external sales and marketing collateral
Comply with company Occupational Health & Safety requirements and company policies and procedures.
