We specialise in product sourcing and development for small household electrical appliances.
We are currently seeking an Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our team based in Malvern, Melbourne, Australia.
As an Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the electrical safety of the products based on the relevant and current Australian Standards.
You will be primarily responsible for supporting the team by assessing new electrical product and providing a written report stating the product improvement strategy. This will be on going for all new and existing product supplied into major national retailers in Australia and New Zealand.
Job Description
- Assess new electrical products including electrical safety, function, structure, and robust design based on the requirements of the Australian Standards. Identifying electrical and mechanical safety issues and defects. Providing recommendations to the supplier on how to fix these issues and following up with supplier’s corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Collecting and verifying technical documents and ensuring all products meet regulatory requirements and industry standards for safety and performance. Reviewing final test reports for certificate applications.
- Working closely with external Electrical Safety Testing labs and local Australian Certification offices.
- Maintaining comprehensive records of safety testing results, complete and accurate compliance folders, and supplier corrective action plan documentation.
- Investigating customer issues, product failures and suggesting areas of improvement.
- Writing of technical documents including creating product instruction manuals and rating labels as per the Australian Standard Requirements and customer requirements. Writing product assessment reports, writing product return fault reports, etc.
- Liaison between electrical Safety testing labs, manufacturers, certification office, state regulators, HEG customers.
Education and Experience
- Degree or at least an Associate Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical engineering or related electrical appliance manufacturing field.
- At least 10 years’ experience in the small domestic electrical appliance field.
- A basic understanding of Electronics.
- A full understanding of electrical systems, components, schematics and electrical safety.
- Knowledge of Quality systems ISO 9000, ISO 9001 and ISO 9003.
- Proven experience in small electrical domestic appliance design and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent understanding of the workings of all types of Small Household Appliances used in the Australian and New Zealand market.
- An in-depth understanding of the AS/NZS 60335.1 and part 2 Standards, as well as the Standards and regulatory requirements and registrations for battery chargers and power supplies.
- An in-depth understanding of EMC Standards for Australia and New Zealand.
- Experience working with Chinese overseas suppliers as well as overseas Chinese Electrical Testing Labs.
- Technical knowledge to interpret engineering drawings, product electrical specifications, Electrical schematic diagrams, and electrical test reports results.
- Excellent organisational, written & verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Must have Project management skills.
- Must have problem solving skills.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must be proficient using Graphic software such as PaintShop Pro or similar.
- Must be proficient using Adobe Illustrator.
