The Engineering Manager - Digital Competence Centre (DCC) is a key leadership role within the Digital Systems Operations and Engineering function. The function provides digital engineering capability support to Business Segments within Thales Australia. The role is within Digital Systems but is responsible for providing services to all CBUs within Thales Australia. The main missions of the Engineering Manager consist of defining a vision, driving the competitiveness improvement and the maturity growth of the organisation.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Engineering Manager for the Digital Competence Centre, you are accountable for:
- Project, Product and Service Development: At Thales Australia, spearhead the ideation, design, and successful roll-out of new Digital, AI and data products & services.
- Strategic Planning: Shape and implement Thales Australia's AI vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with wider business objectives.
- Leadership of 'Digital' engineering division: Lead a diverse team of software engineers, data scientists, AI specialists, and data engineers, managing all aspects from recruitment to performance reviews, whilst cultivating an inventive and inclusive team environment.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various Thales divisions and product lines to weave AI and data-driven insights into new product and service development. Ensure effective communication and alignment between the AI & Data Engineering division and other units within Thales.
- Thought Leadership: Represent Thales Australia at conferences, seminars, and other events, sharing insights and knowledge in the field of AI.
- AI Ethics & Compliance: Uphold and advocate legal and ethical AI use within Thales Australia. Address emerging ethical, legal, and technical issues in AI and data engineering, collaborating with various stakeholders to develop mitigating strategies.
- Project Management: Supervise multiple Digital / AI projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery within time, budget, and scope. Identify potential risks associated with AI and data engineering in the company's portfolio and devise strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, communicating AI initiatives' value and fostering cooperative relationships.
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- Eligible for Australian State engineering registration and the National Engineering Register
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Line Management of engineering teams.
