The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital is looking for passionate and enthusiastic nurses wanting to transition into the Emergency Department.
About the role
Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department has permanent employment opportunities for passionate, enthusiastic and agile nurses who are keen to transition into an emergency department setting.
We are looking for Registered Nurses with no or limited Emergency Nursing experience, but who want to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to work within our emergency and short stay areas. Eastern Health has designed an Entry to Emergency Nursing program to help you succeed in this transition, plus you will be supported by a team of dedicated and experienced Emergency Nurses under the Advanced Preceptorship Program developed at Maroondah Emergency.
This start in Emergency Nursing will also open the door to a host of other opportunities to develop a career in Emergency Nursing. This includes a sixth-month Transition to Specialty Program (equipping you to work in high acuity areas of the Emergency Department) and a twelve-month Post Graduate Program (to work in critical care areas of the ED).

About our department
The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital cares for approximately 50,000 patients per year in this post COVID environment, averaging 135 presentations per day. Presentations include critically unwell patients requiring immediate stabilisation as well as a significant proportion of paediatric presentations. Departmental resources include 35 treatment spaces, including; 3 resuscitation bays, dedicated paediatric and fast track treatment areas, and a combined adult and paediatric Short Stay Unit.

About you
You are dedicated, empathetic and adaptable. You understand, and are interested in, the complex and varied presentations that attend an Emergency Department on a daily basis. You are keen to develop the critical thinking and assessment skills required to provide excellent care to these patients and their families.
To be successful in this role you must possess;
  • Current registration with AHPRA
  • Minimum 12 months’ experience in an acute hospital setting
  • A strong commitment to high quality care
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
