The role

Reporting to the Environmental & Approvals Manager, you will undertake environmental planning approval assessments for pre-feasibility, option analysis and business case phases for proposed development projects. You will also be responsible for the development of approval strategies, including budgets, delivery programs and schedules.

Responsibilities will include:

• Provision of statutory approval and environmental assessment advice for the development of new and enhanced infrastructure investment opportunities.
• Contributing to the integration of environmental compliance and risk management strategies to produce cost effective sustainable solutions.
• Assessing local planning scheme approval requirements
• Supporting the business in developing current policies and procedures that are aligned to best practice within a statutory approvals and environmental setting
• Coordinating environmental planning activities including  Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) and Local planning scheme assessments.
• Writing, reviewing and submitting environmental documentation, ensuring compliance with the environmental authorities, permits and approvals.
• Supporting the maintenance of the environmental works governance framework.
• Supporting Sunwater in maintaining the Environmental Management system in line with AS/NZS ISO 14001:2016.

Please note that due to the nature of the role, you may be required to do some travel to Sunwater regional sites. Please note this role can be based in either the Townsville or Brisbane Office. 

About you

Having tertiary qualifications in in environmental science or a related discipline, you will have experience conducting ecological assessments (desktop and field) as well as experience liaising with external governing bodies in a business setting. You will have well developed knowledge of, and ability to interpret, environmental and planning legislation to provide practical advice.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

• 5+ Years experience in a similar role
• Practical application of Local, State and Federal  environmental planning legislation and offsets framework
• The application of environmental and risk management systems and the respective AS/NZS/ISO standards
• Experience influencing and supporting the delivery of organisational activities through ownership of business decisions and pro-active partnering with leaders across Sunwater
• Proven ability to develop and maintain trusted, effective partnerships with key stakeholders to support the delivery of organisational objectives
