No. 41513MGlencore’s Zinc Capital Studies & Projects group is seeking an Environment & Community Advisor under the Sustainable Development team (14-month fixed term, maternity leave cover). The group is responsible for a range of studies in various stages of progress, ensuring alignment with Glencore values, policies, goals and governance, and delivery of studies in a multi-disciplinary setting. We support various aspects of sustainable development, including the biophysical and human environment, stakeholder analysis, environmental approvals, and closure planning. Our studies and projects include efforts related to mine development and expansion, smelter works and asset closure.Reporting to the Principal, Environment & Community, you will use your expertise to support delivery of these studies by ensuring consistent integration of our commitments to environmental and social responsibility in the strategic development of projects, leading multi-disciplinary sustainable development activities and providing expert technical services.Responsibilities of the role include:
  • Assist the Sustainable Development team in the development of various projects in Australia.
  • Technical subject matter expert (SME) for sustainable development, including scoping, concept, pre-feasibility, and feasibility study (PFS and FS) activities, and other technical studies.
  • Assist in development of regulatory approval and permitting strategies that manage risk and support strong ESG performance.
  • Assist with risk assessments and integration of sustainable development aspects through all stages of mine planning and design.
  • Support project management and management of subcontractors and consultants.
  • Assist or contribute to the writing and reviewing of reports, scopes of work and presentations.
  • Participate in meetings and communications with project teams and site management, including visits to operating mine sites.
  • Domestic travel ~10-20% of the time to execute the essential duties of the role across our Australian assets.
  • Collaborating across different time zones requires a flexible schedule for meetings and studies.
Keys to success:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Approximately 5+ years of experience relevant to the sustainable development of mining, including early planning and technical studies (concept, PFS, FS).
  • Seasoned knowledge and experience in Australian Environmental legislation, particularly Queensland and Northern Territory, Environmental Impact Assessments, as well as regulator and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Knowledgeable in biophysical and human environment disciplines.
  • Excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • GIS knowledge and experience considered a plus.
  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to communicate fluently in English. Additional language capabilities considered a plus.
  • Being a self-starter and expert at managing your time and priorities while having a strong ability to work as part of a team.
