About the role:
We are now seeking to employ an experienced Environmental Advisor – Ecologist at our Koolan Island Operation on an 8 Days On / 6 Day Off (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.
Reporting directly to the Environment and Community Superintendent, the primary focus of this role is to provide ecological advice in relation to fauna / flora management onsite. The role will assist and manage impacts to populations onsite with specific focus on the Northern Quoll including annual monitoring and reporting.

Key tasks and responsibilities
- Fully supporting the Superintendent as requested and as instructed.
- To undertake all activities in a safe manner and in accordance with site safety requirements.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of systems to maintain compliance with environmental approvals and licensing.
- Assist in the preparation of internal and external approvals.
- Developing and assisting with internal and external environmental reports.
- Development and maintenance of management plans, procedures and work instructions.
- Lead onsite flora and fauna surveys, monitoring or trapping programs
- Participating in monitoring programs such as water, marine, flora, fauna and rehabilitation.
- Supporting internal and external audits and inspections.
- Develop and report through GIS and software systems on the presence or absence of specific species including quarantine programs.
- Undertake and assist with onsite auditing or compliance inspections programs.
- As requested, managing consultants and contractors on a day-to-day basis while they are on site.
- Communicating environmental concerns or issues to management.
- Assisting site personnel with the investigation and reporting of environmental incidents.
- Providing environmental expertise and advice to departments and workgroups as requested.
- Overseeing, facilitating and supporting ecological research on the Island.
- Providing direction and supporting Cultural Heritage Rangers and Environmental Trainees engaged in duties.
- Environmental Tertiary qualifications.
- Post Graduate qualifications in biological sciences highly regarded.
- 3-5 years’ experience in botanical survey and/or habitat assessment techniques or a similar position
- Strong flora and fauna identification skills.
- Strong ecological impact assessment and research skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong reporting and organisational skills.
- High level of attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good level of understanding and experience in Federal and State environmental legislation especially in regard to fauna and flora 'taking' as it applies to the role.
- Advanced knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), aerial photography, records and maps.
- Preferred level of programming (i.e. Python) to build acoustic assessment capability internally, camera trap identification programs and other programs as required.
- Current Drivers Licence (manual)
- Recreational Skippers Ticker highly regarded.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Ability to work unsupervised and independently.
- High level of fitness to meet physical demands of field work.
- Experience in rehabilitation trials and development highly regarded (fauna focus)
