About the role

HanRoy are seeking an Environmental and Approvals Specialist to join our team. The role is responsible for ensuring all environmental approvals and associated studies required for allocated projects are developed and submitted in a timely manner, in line with government statutory and policy requirements, and as required by the Project team. It is accountable for development and implementation of appropriate systems to ensure compliance with environmental approval obligations.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Provide strategic approvals advice to internal stakeholders including information relating to the required studies/surveys and likely timing of granting of approvals for allocated projects.
  • Engage and manage contractors and consultants as required, ensuring budget and schedules are adhered to.
  • Oversee contractors and consultants in conducting required studies/surveys and preparation of documents, approval applications and reports.
  • Provide advice and recommendations relating to environmental or approval matters for input into project design, implementation and management.
  • Provide advice relating to approvals pathways, potential approval conditions and associated risks to project design, budget or schedules.
  • Preparation of a range of approval documents in accordance with government statutory requirements, policies and guidelines.
  • Liaise with government regulatory agencies in relation to approval requirements.
  • Liaise with both internal and third party operational and project teams to obtain required information for approval applications and schedule updates.
  • Liaise with technical experts on interpretation of findings of surveys and studies for inclusion in approval applications.
  • Liaise with the Finance & Contracts departments to ensure timely delivery of application fees and Purchase Orders/Contracts for required consultancy services during approval applications.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or similar qualification in Environmental Management.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an environmental approvals function within a relevant consultancy and/or industry, including the preparation of a range of State and Commonwealth approvals.
  • Understanding of Western Australian and Commonwealth environmental legislation and framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret legislation, approval conditions and requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and excellent Excel skills and experience in use of online data bases.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare approvals documentation and associated regulatory liaison.
  • High level report writing skills
  • Excellent time management, priority setting skills and high attention to detail.
  • Mining, construction and port approvals experience are highly desirable.
  • Lead Auditor (Environment) Certification is not a must but advantageous.
