The environmental assistant we are seeking will be required to assist with a range of tasks in soil and water science. This may include field work, sample collection, preparation and submission to laboratories, data entry, transcribing field notes, data presentation, desktop research, statistical analysis, creating two-dimensional scaled drawing (for detailed design), planning projects, workflow and consult with EE staff to ensure quality standards and turn-around times are met.
Key responsibilities
Fulfil the technical capabilities required for one or more of the following:
- Soil and groundwater collection from the field
- Submission of soil samples to laboratories
- Basic soil tests to determine acidity, salinity and aggregate stability
- Ensure integrity of data which is accurate and objective;
- Create two-dimensional site layout plans (SLP) to scale
- Monitor workload and contribute to the efficient running of EE;
- Log in project times through project management software;
- Assist with the maintenance of the quality systems to meet high requirements as applicable;
- Promote and maintain a safe work culture in the field and office;
- Assist professional staff with sample collection and report writing
- Managing multiple tasks effectively within tight timeframes to meet customer expectations
- Working within a small team environment to ensure testing and reporting outcomes are met
- Working under supervision with appreciation of the goals and outcomes of the work team.
At EE, we are seeking candidates who are either in the final stages of, or have recently completed, a degree or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.

- Fieldwork readiness, including working amongst livestock, in various weather conditions, jumping barbed wire fences, getting hands dirty, and lifting heavy tools
- Proficiency in desktop programs such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, Google Earth, and image editing programs (e.g., GIMP, Inkscape).
- Knowledge or willingness to learn 2-D drawing programs (e.g., QCAD professional).
- Meticulous attention to detail and quality. We value precision and thoroughness in work.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with practical examples of these abilities.
- Willingness to travel interstate, including overnight stays for one or two nights.
