Job Description
The Environmental Field Technician will be responsible for assisting the Field Ecologist conduct ecological surveys along known turtle nesting beaches on Magnetic Island. Data will be used to assess the potential influences of vegetation structure and composition on the nesting behaviour of marine turtles on Magnetic Island.

About the role:
Location: Magnetic Island
Contract Type: Casual (up to 18 months work available for the right candidate)
The Turtle Friendly Climate Resilient Coastlines is funded by the partnership between the Australian Government's Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and we are looking to launch the project in March 2024.
Magnetic Island is a known rookery for both the Green Turtle and Flatback Turtles and is home to turtle conservation group, Magnetic Island Network for Turtles Inc. (MINT). In collaboration with MINT, this project will look at the correlation between vegetation and turtle nesting success. Data will be used to develop strategic, evidence-based criteria for coastal revegetation in known turtle nesting habitat.
To be successful in this role you will have;
- Sound plant identification skills, including weed species.
- Experience conducting vegetarion surveys.
- Ability to accurately record field monitoring data.
- Proven attention to detail.
- Be physically fit, self-motivated and able to function in an outdoor environment.
