What you'll be doing
To undertake a range of activities that protects and improves the health and wellbeing of the community through the identification and mitigation of Environmental Health risks. These activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, business and operational plans and delegated authority.
This position is part of a multidisciplinary team of public health practitioners who plan, develop, implement and evaluate Environmental Health risk assessment, education and enforcement programs to protect the public from physical, chemical, biological and radiological agents in the environment that may adversely impact on human health.There is a focus on working with Local Government Authorities within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
This is a temporary full time leave relief position until 30 March 2025 with the possibility of extension.
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria * Recognised tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or Public Health or equivalent qualification in a health related field.

• Sound knowledge of the NSW Public Health Act 2010, the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000, the Local Government Act 1993 and the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008 and associated Regulations.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in identifying, analysing and managing Environmental Health risks.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate in Environmental Health research, investigations and evaluation.
• Word processing and computer database skills.
• Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence with a good driving record (P2 licence acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
