About the Role

ALS Hydrographics is a diverse and dynamic provider of hydro-meteorological products and services. We are currently seeking an experienced motivated Environmental Sampler to join the Mackay Hydrographics Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a committed and dedicated team who continually strive to meet and exceed client expectations, as well as an opportunity for a Sampler to progress their career towards Hydrography and automatic environmental monitoring solutions.

The day to day

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide best practice Environmental Sampling services for clients in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Scheduling and maintaining routine and ad-hoc sampling runs.
  • Undertake manual sampling activities from both surface water and groundwater, using a range of techniques with adherence to QA principles and procedures.
  • Ensuring that the quality of work is maintained in accordance with QWIs.
  • Accurate record keeping including field observations, photographs, maps and calibration checks.
  • Assist with the installation, servicing, operation and maintenance of automatic environmental monitoring stations with a strict emphasis on quality.
  • Project management.
  • Client liaison and correspondence.
  • Maintaining a professional image.
  • Adhering to all safety requirements.

The Essentials

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Relevant environmental sampling experience, including experience in surface water and groundwater sampling, using a range of techniques.
  • Tertiary qualification in environmental science, water resources or similar (desirable).
  • Project management experience.
  • High level attention to detail, strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work cohesively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions including short periods away from home.
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks in a wide range of outdoor conditions.
  • Experience in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Current manual car driver's licence.
  • 4WD experience.
  • A strong safety focus.
  • Experience with health, safety and environmental aspects of field work.
  • Willingness and ambition to advance career further down the pathway of Hydrography, including the eligibility to enrol in the Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography).
