Our Advanced Manufacturing Division (SAM-D) is seeking EOI's for two role, a Beamline CNC Operator and Fibre Laser Operator to join our progressive, technology-driven team. Utilising the latest in Advanced Manufacturing technology, we process and manufacture a range of steel and aluminium materials and parts. This role offers a unique opportunity to start your advanced manufacturing and processing career within a state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Facility Process Foreman.
  • Ensure the safe operation of machinery following training and competency assessments.
  • Work effectively within a team, maintaining high levels of communication.
  • Uphold our commitment to quality, following strict QA protocols and adhering to ISO9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
  • Comply with SAM-D's OH&S policies and Safe Operating Procedures.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Boilermaker qualification preferable
  • CNC Machine Operation: Understanding of how CNC machines function, including the ability to program and configure the machine according to specific job requirements.
  • CAD/CAM Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software used for designing and manufacturing. This involves being able to read and interpret designs and translate them into machine instructions.
  • Plasma Cutting Principles: Knowledge of plasma cutting techniques, including understanding the electrical and gas flows that make plasma cutting possible. This includes awareness of different types of gases used for various materials.
  • Material Properties: Understanding the properties of different materials being cut, such as metals and their alloys, to adjust machine settings for optimal cutting performance.

Practical Skills

  • Precision and Accuracy: Ability to precisely set up and adjust the machine to ensure accurate cutting, including selecting appropriate tools and fixtures.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Skills in diagnosing and solving operational issues, performing regular maintenance, and ensuring the longevity and efficient operation of the machine.
  • Safety Practices: Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols and practices to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment, including the use of protective equipment.

Additional Skills

  • Quality Control: Ability to inspect and ensure the quality of the work produced, recognising and correcting any errors or inconsistencies in the finished product.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Skills in working as part of a team, including communicating effectively with other tradesmen, engineers, and supervisors to ensure that the project specifications are met.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated with new technologies, techniques, and advancements in the field of CNC plasma cutting and metal fabrication.

Required Skills:

  • The rights to work in Australia
  • Completing or completed apprenticeship doing similar work
  • TIG and MIG experience
  • Sheetmetal skills 1mm to 6mm (not heavy boilermakers)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and ability to work well in a team

Desirable Skills:

  • Current Forklift qualification (not essential)
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to work using own initiative
  • Trade qualification.
  • Certification to operate an overhead crane.

Previous experience preferred but we can train right person as long as they have some relevant experience and the right approach/attitude.
