Job Description

The Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant will guarantee Perth’s future water needs for generations to come.

To reduce our dependence on rainfall and groundwater and support the growing population, Water Corporation has formed the Alkimos SeaWater Alliance, which includes ACCIONA Construction Australia.

The Alliance will design, construct, operate and maintain the Plant which will produce 50 billion litres of drinking water per year, with provision to expand by an additional 50 billion litres per year in the future. Having already constructed 89 desalination plants worldwide, ACCIONA is a pioneer and the global leader in the sustainable desalination sector.

Construction of the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant will commence over the coming months and the project is expected to be completed in 2029. We are putting out this Expression of Interest to suitably experienced Environmental and Sustainability Advisors who would like to register their interest for upcoming opportunities on this landmark project. 

Reporting to the Environmental and Sustainability Manager you will be responsible for implementing environment policy, procedures and legislative requirements out on site. Overseeing the progress, execution, and completion of the Project’s ISC Design and As Built rating, while actively advocating for sustainability efforts within the Alliance. This involves fostering innovation, enhancing processes, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge.

Key accountabilities for the position: 

  • Conduct regular environmental and sustainability inspections and contribute to client and stakeholder inspections and audits
  • Conduct environmental monitoring, as required including noise, vibration, water and air quality
  • Liaise with stakeholders during site works to monitor contaminated land, ecologists and fauna handlers as required
  • Collection and maintenance of environmental reports and monitoring data
  • Development and delivery of environmental training, toolboxes and inductions as required
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing project sustainability objectives and targets in line with the ISC rating, while implementing controls across the project to ensure ISC sustainability requirements are captured, and collaborating with other functional leads to implement these controls.
  • Collect, analyse and manage data associated with emissions, materials, waste and water to prepare sustainability reports 

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Ideally You will have a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or Equivalent
  • Experienced in management of potential environmental hazards & risks on site (i.e., noise, water, air, heritage sites, contaminated soil, flora/ fauna).
  • Working knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations and best practice
  • ISAP accreditation
  • Experience in developing an ISC Design and As-Built submission
