Exciting Casual Opportunity for an after-hours Equine Veterinary NurseCamden locationExpected to be available for 2 x weekday shifts approx. 3:30pm – 11:30pm + weekend shifts (Sat & Sun inclusive approx. 8am – 4pm) on a rotating roster (on average 1 weekend shift every 3 weeks)HEO 3 Step 1 $48.13 per hour + Premium after hours loadings (up to 50% of the base hourly rate depending on shift times) + shift loadings (up to 75% of the base hourly rate depending on days/times) + 11% superannuation.About the opportunityThe Equine Veterinary Nurse provides assistance during veterinary procedures and treatments. They perform routine veterinary tasks and monitor hospitalised animals. They serve as mentors to veterinary interns, imparting essential technical skills. They also maintain the sterility and cleanliness of clinical environments and medical equipment. They provide equine nursing and technical assistance with clinical and emergency cases presented to the equine unit of the veterinary teaching hospital Camden with a focus on outside standard business hours. As such, we see the importance in recruiting talent aligned to these values in the pursuit of research excellence.Your key responsibilities will beassists clinicians with Equine Veterinary treatments, prepare and assist with surgeries & clinical procedurescleans and maintains clinical treatment areas, including top and bottom stables, isolation unit, nurses’ station and laundryas this role is an after-hours nursing role, you will also be treating and maintaining clinical spaces for dogs, cats and livestock therefore some experience with the mentioned animals is desirable/requiredsterilisation of instruments and equipment, preparation and packing of surgical kitsassists with other veterinary nursing duties as directed by professional staff e.g. support in other departments as required including small animal inpatients and spey clinic.complete general washing of surgical drapes, towels, etc.carries out technical skills such as blood collection, iv catheter placement, joint preparation and other duties as requiredmaintains stock including ordering of consumables and procurement of supplies, and control of stock quantities. Manage expired and near to be expired drugsactively contribute to maintaining UVTH areas in a clean and safe condition, ensuring that hazardous chemicals are stored and disposed of appropriately and that the work area is compliant with workplace health and safety requirementskeeps Workplace Health and Safety records, as per the University’s Workplace Health and Safety policy, ensuring that WHS matters requiring attention are addressed appropriatelyperforms work activities related to the role’s key accountabilities as approved by the manager and commensurate to the role’s classification levelYou will haveCertificate IV - Veterinary Nursing or/and a Certificate III - In a relevant field) or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experienceDemonstrated ability to lift animals up to 16kg and heavier animals with assistance (mechanical and/or team lifting), adhering to the University’s Heavy Lifting Policy.Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently together with demonstrated ability to communicate with veterinary professionals and academic staff.Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and limited supervision.Knowledge of a large range of veterinary surgical & medical procedures.Computer Literacy.Organisation and Time Management.Attention to Detail.Work ExperienceProven experience in handling horses, foals, yearlings, colts and stallions.Demonstrated experience in the procurement of surgical supplies.Demonstrated experience and ability in Veterinary Nursing.Previous experience in an Equine veterinary practice.As this role is an after-hours nursing role, you will also be assisting with the treatment and maintaining clinical spaces for dogs, cats and livestock, therefore some experience with the mentioned animals is desirable/requiredTo keep our community safe, please be aware of our which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the positionPre-employment checksThis position is designated as child-related work.
