Ongoing, Part-Time Role
The Peter MacCallum Operating Suite is a dynamic and vibrant environment encompassing eight operating theatres and an extensive Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). The unit provides comprehensive anaesthetic and surgical services for patients requiring surgery for cancer. Care is delivered through an integrated multidisciplinary approach, utilising purpose built, state of the art infrastructure. The operating theatres are integrated to support intraoperative radiotherapy, 2-D and 3-D laparoscopic equipment, and an established Da Vinci Robotic program.
The Operating Suite Equipment Nurse is a senior leadership position with considerable perioperative skills and experience. Utilising advanced perioperative knowledge, the Equipment Nurse manages and coordinates all equipment and consumables required to support the specialist care and activity of the Peter MacCallum Operating Suite. The Equipment Nurse role operates Monday to Friday.
The Ideal Applicant:
The Operating Suite Equipment Nurse will lead the coordination and oversight of all equipment and consumables used in the Operating Suite and lead and coordinate the management of prostheses. The Equipment Nurse will display strong interpersonal and communication skills and work closely with the multidisciplinary team. Other responsibilities include:
• Work collaboratively with the Peter Mac Operating Theatres, and Royal Melbourne Hospital to order high value consumables, prosthesis and maintain the supply stock including consignment stock management
• Assist with the development of others by providing clinical support and education to colleagues related to equipment
• Demonstrate a good working knowledge of relevant equipment in the department
• Assist nursing and medical staff with troubleshooting equipment issues when in use on a patient, within the operating theatres
• Maintain effective working relationships with health professionals within the department and in areas outside the unit (such as RMH operating theatres, biomedical engineering, infection control, RMD CSSD, Supply and Procurement)
• Support Operating Suite Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs) in developing and implementing strategies to meet agreed financial outcomes
• Demonstrated inventory management skills to always ensure adequate stock of all equipment and consumables
• Timely communication of any equipment or stock availability issues with alternatives provided.
• Management of product recalls and faults, including reporting issues and returning equipment or consumables
• Ensure compliance with Infection Prevention Practices.
• Management and evaluation of equipment and consumable trials within the Operating Suite
• Collaborate with the Perioperative Education team to ensure vital education of new equipment and consumables is provided
• Contributes to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures relating to equipment and infection prevention protocols
• Collaborates with the Operating Suite Nurse Unit Managers to source equipment quotes and coordinate supply and installation of new equipment

• Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and prioritise workloads.

Remuneration under the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024 will be for ANUM YW11 ($89,965.47 per annum) - YW12 ($92,995.71 per annum)
