The role
Our Federal Government client is seeking an EL1 level ETL / BI Developer for a non-ongoing position for 12 months, with a 6 month extension option. You will play a pivotal role in shaping Australia's future through data-driven insights. As a successful candidate, you'll combine your passion for data with technical expertise in SQL, ETL tools, Power BI, and Excel.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Apply Your Technical Skills: Your strong command of SQL, ETL tools, and visualisation platforms will drive impactful solutions by improving and supporting our systems.
Show Your Data Enthusiasm: You'll dive deep into data, unravelling its mysteries, and transforming it into actionable intelligence.
Business Improvement: Identify opportunities for growth by analysing data, consolidating sources, and scoping data projects.
Critical Thinking: Challenge ideas, link data to program needs, and drive innovation.
- SQL: Design, develop and implement changes to our SQL database.
- ETL maintenance and enhancements: Design, develop and implement changes to our ETL.
- Data modelling/fusion: Look after data integrity and build data models. Combine external data sources (think ABR and ASIC data) with venture capital insights.
- Technical documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation.
- Working on projects: Exciting projects lie ahead! We're moving our on-premise solution to the Azure cloud. Craft dazzling reports and turn data into compelling narratives for our business area, executives, the committee, and the curious public.
- Applying critical thinking: Analyse data, link it to program requirements, and challenge ideas.
- Collaborating with stakeholders: Work with private companies, team members and departmental stakeholders. Your ability to engage is important. Work with ICT areas-database administrators, security experts, and data management-to build robust solutions.

The requirements
- SQL proficiency
- Previous experience in ETL development
- Knowledge of BI Tools such as Power BI, Report Builder, Excel
- Data management/cleansing/modelling
- Skills in, or an interest in learning visual communication
- Strategic thinking and creative problem-solving
- Results-focused mindset, combined with teamwork skills
- Flexibility, adaptability and resilience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in developing tools for government policy or regulation (highly regarded)
- Qualification in technology (highly regarded)
