Team Purpose

AusCycling’s Sport Pillar oversees events and racing; coach and official education and accreditation programs; competition rules and state/territory operations. 

The Events Delivery Team has responsibility for the planning, coordination, management and delivery of AusCycling events. This role aims to achieve key organisational objectives, contributing to an exceptional experience and services to members. 

Position Purpose

The role will have two key responsibilities:

• Brisbane Cycling Festival
• BMX & MTB events in Queensland

Brisbane Cycling Festival

The role is responsible for the planning and delivery of the Brisbane Cycling Festival, Australia’s largest multi-disciple Cycling Festival. Working with a broad range of stakeholders, you will be responsible for project managing all aspects of the festival and ensuring it’s continued growth through new and innovative ideas which inspire a community of cyclist.

Queensland BMX and Mountain Bike (MTB) events.

This role is also responsible for ensuring that BMX & MTB events within Queensland are conducted in accordance with the rules, regulations, and guidelines of the sport. 

The Event Operations Manager manages the planning, delivery, and administration of the overall calendar of events in conjunction with clubs and private promoters.

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements.   

Working under general supervision:  

1. Lead the planning and operational delivery of the Brisbane Cycling Festival annually, with a particular focus on innovation, collaboration and strong stakeholder management.
2. Lead and/or support the delivery of state level events throughout Queensland in the disciplines of BMX and MTB.
3. Manage event sanctioning, including coordination of the state / territory race calendar for MTB and CX.  Ensure customer facing information sources including the AusCycling website and social media channels are up-to-date at all times.
4. Lead the deliver of the BMX State Championships.
5. Provide and oversee day-to day support for Event Delivery partners including clubs, private organisers, suppliers and race directors to ensure events are delivered to the highest possible standard.
6. Oversee and support the administration of state series.
7. Attend and oversee designated Queensland Championship events. Manage the delivery of required services and ensure all aspects of the event are delivered to a high standard.
8. Attend national events held in Queensland as required.
9. Ensure standard operating procedures and policies for events are implemented. 
10. Recruite, train and supervise event volunteers as required.
11. Oversee the appointment of event and state appointed technical officials. 
12. Contribute to the development of the annual events operations plan and budget.
13. Create and retain positive relationships with key stakeholders as required to support alignment with iniatives and the AusCycling Strategy.
14. Role model AusCycling organisational values, demonstrating a high standard of behaviour, including respect for, and collaboration with others at all times. 
15. Adhere to, uphold and promote the principles of AusCycling policies and operating procedures. 

Other duties as directed to support the overall success of AusCycling, in support of event planning and management as directed from time to time.

Qualifications

Relevant tertiary qualifications highly desirable (Event Management or related field), or a commensurate level of event management experience.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally, in a professional and ethical manner. 
• Experience/knowledge in cycling specific Event Delivery/coordination is desirable.
• Past proven experience working with stakeholders, event workforce, contractors and suppliers in event environments. 
• Excellent time management, organisation and project management skills, with an ability to manage complex tasks, challenging projects and competing deadlines concurrently.  
• Proven ability to lead and work as part of a team. 
• Excellent computer literacy and administrative skills. 
• Excellent record keeping, documentation, and report writing skills. 
• Sound understanding and experience implementing work health and safety, and risk management practices. 

Knowledge of the sport of cycling, and an understanding of contemporary issues and opportunities for the Australian sports sector.

Notes

This role requires the incumbent to hold and maintain a Working with Children Clearance, along with a drivers license. Due to the timing of AusCycling events, this role also requires flexibility in work hours including being available to work weekends, public holidays and out of hours’ work as necessary (to support events).
