In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Proactively managing the State's investment in State Owned Corporations and other major Government businesses to ensure they are meeting the Government's commercial and policy objectives and provide expert advice to shareholders, Treasurer and Minister, on commercial, policy and governance matters.
  • Undertaking critical analysis and provide expert, authoritative, strategic and well-balanced advice and recommendations to develop, update and implement commercial policies within the Commercial Policy Framework to provide a framework for the Government's major commercial businesses to meet organisational and government objectives.
  • Develop and maintain networks, lead and engage with stakeholders within and external to government, including Chairs and shareholders to manage the appointment of directors to the State-Owned Corporations and other major commercial businesses.
  • Proactively manage the State's post transaction assets, liabilities, exposures and indemnities that arise from significant commercial transactions of the State, including leading commercial negotiations and dispute resolution with counterparties and identifying and delivering solutions to complex issues.
  • Lead and drive the development of the business strategy and strategic initiatives in partnership with senior leaders; and facilitate incorporation with organisational strategic planning processes, supporting the strategic plans for the organisation and the Government.
  • Evaluate, synthesise and critically analyse highly complex and politically sensitive issues and concerns affecting government business to drive evidence based decision making and the proactive development of sound and well balanced solutions that add value, minimise risk to the organisation, improve efficiencies and facilitate a positive customer experience.
  • Identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities and provide timely, relevant, authoritative information, recommendations and advice to the Minister, Secretary, Deputy Secretary and other key internal stakeholders to mitigate risk and facilitate informed decision making.
  • Direct and supervise reporting staff, determine operational priorities, monitor and review performance, provide leadership and guidance and facilitate ongoing professional development to ensure staff have the knowledge, skills and support to achieve the Unit's objectives.

You will make a key difference to the people of New South Wales in your role as a Senior Executive.
The Executive Director, Commercial Assets has primary responsibility for overseeing management of the State's interests in the State-Owned Corporations and other major government businesses including TCorp, icare and State Super, providing leadership of commercial policy matters including leading the delivery of commercial policy advice, and is responsible for monitoring risk, liability and opportunity associated with the State's post transaction entities.
Achieve success as the Executive Director, Commercial Assets
You will be successful in this role if you:
  • Initiate and maintain extensive engagement across NSW Treasury, State Owned Corporations and other major Government businesses and the broader NSW public sector.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate their cooperation with Government's strategic objectives for the businesses.
  • Build and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with business executives, chairs and Shareholders across a diverse range of businesses.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of diverse government businesses and priorities and managing the complexity associated with the combination of operating environments, community expectations and the political environment.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of issues within the post-transaction portfolio, which includes the State's residual interests and liabilities in energy generation, ports and electricity networks.
  • Develop and maintain linkages which will allow the Unit to best take its place in, and inform and be informed by, whole of government financial and other risk management outcomes.
