Senior Governance Officer
NSW Trustee and Guardian have an exciting ongoing, full-time role (35 hours per week).

  • Location: Parramatta and Sydney CBD, with hybrid/flexible working arrangements available.
  • Offering a competitive salary of $120,859 up to $133,183 per annum plus superannuation, annual leave loading and flex hours.

About the role
The Senior Governance Officer leads the implementation and management of the suite of ethics, compliance, and risk management policies, strategies and governance processes for NSW Trustee and Guardian.
This position is responsible for ensuring that key internal audit, risk, and compliance functions run efficiently and effectively, through accountable and timely management of the Governance team activities.
Your role will be to
  • Develop and deliver ethical conduct and risk management training, education and learning resources to promote a culture of effective governance.
  • Provide expert advice and support to management and staff on diverse corporate governance, compliance, risk management and ethical issues, consistent with established government policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and professional standards.
  • Monitor, review, implement and update the suite of governance policies, procedures, and practices, including the ethics, compliance, internal audit, and risk management frameworks.
  • Lead the development of the strategic internal audit plan, undertake audits and the coordination of contracted internal audit service providers to deliver the plan, and support the implementation of recommendations arising from audits and other sources.
  • Develop and analyse comprehensive governance information and data and prepare management reports, including reports on audit, risk, and compliance performance.
  • Provide secretariat support to the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) including maintaining compliance with policy obligations, preparation of agendas and minutes, and the coordination and quality review of papers.
  • Provide day to day coaching, guidance, mentoring and support to the team to assist with their on-the-job training and development if required, including reviewing quality of work and advice, and identifying any gaps in capabilities and skills to effectively manage the team.
  • Provide support for the enterprise risk register, strategic business planning, business continuity, annual audit plan and other key activities as required by the Executive and Senior Leadership Team.

About you
The successful candidate should have 5+ years previous experience in risk management, governance, compliance and internal audit through a government agency or equivalent experience along with:
  • An Excellent communicator, who can actively develop and maintain effective relationships and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experienced in preparing reports, policies, and correspondence in a government agency in related subjects
  • Excellent ability to deliver training across a broad range of related subjects
  • Solve problems with the ability to use initiative, exercise sound judgement and prioritise workloads during busy periods.
  • Provides effective and timely advice to the business on risk management, governance, compliance, and audit.
  • Effective manage team of direct reports to maintain an efficient working environment.
Essential requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, industry certifications and/or equivalent experience in delivery of corporate governance, risk management, compliance, and internal audit services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant statutory requirements and public sector policies and practices relating to risk, governance, compliance, and audit.
  • Experience in developing audit strategies, policies, systems, programs and plans which are aligned with organisational objectives and risks.
