Fixed term full time - 6 months with possibility of extension
Expressions of Interest are sought from current WA Public Sector leaders for a senior leadership opportunity
- Lead the implementation of the Government's Innovation Strategy to support the development and diversification of Western Australia's economy.
- Implement an updated Intellectual Property (IP) Policy for Western Australia.
- Support the growth of WA's venture capital industry.
- Delivering improvements to the State's innovation eco-system.
- Lead the establishment, administration, and overall governance of the Lower Carbon Grants Program Fund and the GreenTech Hub.
The Organisation
The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is Western Australia's lead agency for economic development, international trade and investment, and tourism. It also leads the promotion and development of the defence, international education, science, and innovation sectors in Western Australia.

The Executive Director Innovation partners with the Deputy Director General of Industry, Science and Innovation to support collaboration with industry, government, and the research and innovation sectors to diversify the economy and create jobs through the development of Western Australia's innovation capability and capacity.

To be successful in the role, you will need to:
- Demonstrate ability to manage the development and implementation of strategic policy initiatives, programs and projects consistent with Government's priorities and objectives;
- Demonstrate core leadership behaviours outlined in the Public Sector Leadership Framework and reflect core competencies.
- Provide advice to the Deputy Director General, Director General, Minister and senior executives across the Public Sector on Western Australia's innovation policy, programs, and issues;
- Work collaboratively with management across the Department and contribute to broader departmental plans, policies, and strategies to facilitate achievement of the Department's and Government's innovation objectives;
- Negotiate partnerships and facilitate investment from the private sector, state and federal government and other external funding bodies;
- Liaise and provide advice to industry, government, research, academia, and the innovation sectors in relation to the development and implementation of innovation initiatives, policies, and strategies, and enhancing WA's innovation capability and capacity;
- Advocate Western Australia's innovation capability and capacity; and promote and market Western Australia as the place to innovate; including through the Western Australia Trade and Investment network; and
- Support Government agencies in developing an innovation culture and capabilities across the public sector
