The Water Group leads the NSW Government in providing confidence to communities and stakeholders with the transparent stewardship of water resources, provision of services and reforms that support sustainable and healthy environments, economies and societies across NSW.
About the Role
The Executive Director, Water Operations and Resilience (ED WO&R) drives performance improvement within DCCEEW Water and across the water sector. The role drives the implementation of key water management functions, supports the water resilience of cities and towns and oversees key regulatory functions. The role leads collaboration with key water sector entities including State Owned Corporations, Local Water Utilities and industry representatives. Leads in the development of a high-performance culture, including a strong service ethic within DPE Water and across the water sector.
Key Challenges
- Oversee and lead the implementation of statutory functions for water management activities, including audits and reviews.
- Drive the policy, regulatory and support functions to improve the performance of State-Owned Corporations, Council's local water utilities plus industry to improve best practice and enhance community confidence in the management of water resources and delivery of services
- Lead programs and projects aimed at increasing resilience of cities and towns across NSW including managing flood mitigation infrastructure, demand management and evidence-based capital investments
- Represent DPE Water in whole-of-Government forums and act as a key point of contact for central agencies on policy and strategic matters related to water management.
- Represent and advise the Deputy Secretary as required, including interfacing with the Minister, their office and others as well as acting as a primary escalation point for urgent, complex or highly sensitive client and operational issues, determining appropriate responses and the need for further escalation to the Deputy Secretary
- Degree qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in urban water management
- Significant experience managing large and complex resources to achieve key organisational objectives within a water environment
