Friends of the Barwon Inc (FOTB) is a catchment-wide network of groups and individuals working to protect and restore the long-term health of the Barwon River and its tributaries through building partnerships, empowering communities, engaging with government, and providing strong and effective leadership and advocacy.
The purpose of FOTB is to be an independent knowledge-based community leader and educator for the protection and improvement of the ecosystem of the Barwon catchment.

About the role:
FOTB is seeking to engage a self-motivated, experienced person as Executive Officer to oversee the day-to-day running of the association, to develop and implement the association’s activities program, to oversee the governance of the association, and to build partnerships within the community, under the broad direction of the Committee of Management.

Key tasks:
- Manage the Committee of Management processes – committee papers and circulation of agendas, minutes, discussion papers, proposals for the committee.
- Ensure that general meetings of the association and meetings of the committee are correctly called and held.
- Build the organisation’s social media presence and other marketing related tasks to raise the profile of FOTB.
- Coordinate the production and publishing of four newsletters per year.
- Implement a strategic plan.
- Compile submissions for grants and other funding opportunities.
- Respond to planning applications that have the potential to impact on the Barwon catchment.
- Respond to general submissions and inquiries, as required.
- Promote FOTB including managing the website content, building relationships with other local groups, Landcare Networks and agencies.
- Organise events (e.g., booking venues, advertising, invoicing and receipts), as required.
- Ensure that the association’s Model Rules are monitored for compliance.
- Prepare and review mail outs to members and supporters (primarily through Mail Chimp).
- Assist in managing memberships by tracking membership renewals, checking payments, issuing receipts and invoices.
- Assist with financial records and bookkeeping, as required.
- Improve efficiencies in the way that FOTB conducts its business.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in an organisation focused on the environment, or as an Executive Officer for a not-for-profit organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a Committee of Management.
- High level written, oral communication and computer skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited direction while managing varied and conflicting demands.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop effective relationships with stakeholders, community groups and volunteers.
- An understanding of the communities and landscapes of the Barwon catchment.
- Hold a current driver’s license and able to travel regionally as required.
This is a part-time (0.2 FTE, 7.6 hrs p.w.) contract position to 30 June 2027 at a pro-rata rate of $105,000 – $115,000 p.a. The position is available from 4 April 2024.
The successful applicant will be offered a negotiated fixed fee for the provision of services under a Services Agreement, with the fee payable pro-rata every month on the receipt of a tax invoice.
The fee will be inclusive of costs associated with the provision of a phone, internet, and information technology required to perform the services.
An hourly rate will be agreed for additional services as agreed by the parties.
Australian Taxation Office rates will be used for reimbursement of vehicle travel costs.
