Lead the way to better health in West Arnhem as our Health Centre Manager

About us

The Red Lily Health Board Aboriginal Corporation (RLHB) is a regional health service that aims to empower Aboriginal people in the West Arnhem region, seeking to address health issues in the community with the long-term vision improving health outcomes by establishing a regional Aboriginal community-controlled model of service delivery.

About Jabiru:

You will find Jabiru 255kms east of Darwin. The township is surrounded by Kakadu National Park boasting wetlands, billabongs, and wildlife. You can enjoy your time off exploring the region, fishing in the waterways, cooling off in the swimming pool or taking part in the community's many sporting activities. The brand-new modern health clinic is scheduled to open in September 2024 which will provide additional infrastructure and further opportunities for service provision.

About the Role:

The position will lead the Red Lily Clinical Services team (based at Jabiru) that delivers high quality and culturally secure primary healthcare to all people in the Kakadu region. Employing extensive nursing experience, skills, and applied knowledge in the Aboriginal health context, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a Remote Health Centre. This position requires an understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, principles of Primary Health Care and relevant legislation governing work practices in a Remote Health setting.

The Jabiru team will include GP (x1), Remote Area Nurses (x4), Aboriginal Health Practitioner (x1) and administration staff working alongside community engagement workers, as well as a wide range of outreach specialists and service providers. The position will be supported by an experienced remote leadership team reporting to the Director of Primary Healthcare.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide & promote a comprehensive Primary Health Care (PHC) service utilising a multidisciplinary approach and endorsed protocols (e.g. CARPA manuals) and policies. 
  • Ensure all documentation, records and health information systems are maintained to ensure continuity of care.  
  • Facilitate and provide culturally acceptable health education supporting a community participative approach to local level decision-making. 
  • Promote and support Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) to be first line providers of health care in the community to facilitate the delivery of culturally appropriate health care. 
  • Participate in and encourage education and professional development of self, team members and learners. 
  • Participate in Quality and Safety programs including development and evaluation of policies, procedures, and protocols (including Work Health & Safety). 
  • Participate in performance management and professional development programs in consultation with management and professional support groups.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff to the Organisation's philosophy, policies and procedures and Health Centre functions to promote effective teamwork.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and review of the Organisational plan.
  • Participate in an on call 24-hour roster. 

Our ideal candidate:

  1. Is a registered nurse with AHPRA and holds relevant post-basic or post graduate qualifications.
  2. Brings extensive experience and demonstrated skills in Remote Area nursing, with an understanding of the roles within a multidisciplinary primary health care team in Australian indigenous communities.
  3. Effectively interacts with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, demonstrating a strong grasp of Aboriginal health issues, cultural safety, and health determinants.
  4. Possesses knowledge and experience in implementing primary health care programs and navigating relevant legislation governing remote work practices.
  5. Demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement, workplace health and safety, research, education, and professional development.
  6. Has highly developed interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and IT skills, and is willing to utilize health IT systems.
  7. Holds (or is eligible for) an NT manual driver's license, police clearance, Ochre Card, and Land Council work permit.
  8. Is ready to travel to remote communities by air and 4WD, reside in a remote setting, and participate in a 24-hour on-call roster.
