About us
Be Centre is an exciting, impactful charity providing one-to-one Play Therapy and other therapeutic supports for kids aged 3–14 years. We are dedicated to early intervention, stopping cycles of harm and helping children heal from difficulties and major trauma, so they can thrive. Our mission is to provide hope and healing through Play Therapy and other creative therapies to empower children who are experiencing emotional, social or behavioural difficulties, or who have been traumatised to be the best they can be.
The Role
The role of the therapeutic team at Be Centre is to help children to make sense of difficult life experiences or complex psychological issues through children’s natural language of play and creativity.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications required
- Undergraduate degree in health sciences, allied health, teaching, nursing, counselling or a similar degree aligned with the provision of health and developmental services to children.
- A tertiary qualification in play therapy, expressive or creative arts or a similar degree aligned with the provision of health and developmental services to children.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in working therapeutically with children aged 3-14 years.
- Post Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy or a Post Graduate Diploma or Masters in Play Therapy is highly regarded
- Empathic and with an open and friendly manner
- The ability to gain the trust of children
- Resilience and insight for working with children in emotional distress
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- A broad knowledge of child development
- A good understanding of the different ways children communicate their feelings
- The ability to work with difficult behaviour or facts, without making judgements
- A good understanding of issues surrounding confidentiality
- Competent in Information Technology including digital record keeping and clinical scheduling systems
- Maintain professional development & association membership appropriately such as AHPRA, PACFA, APPTA, APTA, PTI, BAPT or equivalent
Responsibilities
- Conduct therapeutic modality offered to a high, professional standard
- Support families to respond to their child’s emotional needs
- Liaise with other health professionals and organisations as appropriate
- Keep records carefully and to a professional standard
- Work collaboratively with other Be Centre Therapists and with the Fundraising & Development Team to help promote Be Centre brand/services
- Promote play and creative therapies to the broader community
- Act in the best interests of the Be Centre business when administering scholarships
- Adhere to Be Centre’s policies and procedures
- Act ethically, responsibly, and respectfully at all times
