The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and deliver of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.
The Allied Health team will provide culturally appropriate clinical care and supportive health care services to contribute to sustainable changes in the health outcomes of clients through inter-professional collaboration and partnerships with local stakeholders, and organisations.
About the Role?
The purpose of the Eye Health Assistant is to help to improve the Eye Health of the community through the delivery of quality optometry treatment and support services.
The role will provide dispensing and administration support to the optometry health team in service delivery in designated primary clinic locations.
- Provide quality general optical support services to clients, including dispensing spectacles and completing applications through MASS
- Provide ancillary testing, including visual field testing
- Coordinate client referrals, appointments and follow ups.
- Assist with booking ophthalmology appointments and surgery pathways.
- Coordinate administrative processes: Process Medicare confirmations and billings, create and manage patient bookings, control and order stock, and record relevant data and statistics
About You?
Essentials:
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Criminal History Check
- Current Blue Card (prior to commencement)
- Current Yellow Card - Disability Workers Screening Check (prior to commencement)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within a health-related context with a clear understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture protocols and health policies.
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Experience as an optical assistant/dispenser desirable.
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
