Wallumatta Legal is a low fee, not-for-profit Family Law firm. We are a social justice project that aims to offer affordable legal advice and representation to the “missing middle” (that is, low to middle income earners).
We are an innovate legal practice where the focus is on client outcomes, producing work of the highest standard, and an excellent team culture.
Founded in NSW in 2021 through a partnership between DLA Piper and Macquarie University, the success of our model and a partnership with Melbourne University Law School has enabled us to expand into Victoria.
Our NSW practice is now a full-service firm with five lawyers and support staff and, with the focus now on establishing and expanding the Victorian practice, it is an exciting time to come on board!
ABOUT THE ROLEThe role is full-time (permanent), based at Melbourne Law School, and we offer flexible work arrangements and operate on a hybrid model.
If you have at least two years’ experience in Family Law, a pragmatic approach, and share our belief that everyone deserves access to justice - regardless of their financial position, background, or any other factor - then Wallumatta Legal might be the firm for you.
You will work closely with the Senior Solicitor as we gradually expand our Melbourne-based team and will also receive support from the broader team in Sydney. There will also be the opportunity to supervise MLS Juris Doctor students undertaking placement with us.
You will get to demonstrate your Family Law skills and experience by:
- providing advice and representation to clients in parenting and property matters;
- drafting legal documents including correspondence and court documents;
- appearing at the FCFCOA; and
- appearing at mediation and settlement conferences.
You will be part of a team that prides itself on providing not only high-quality advice across a wide spectrum of Family Law matters, but also development and training opportunities, and career progression.
ABOUT YOU
To be considered for this role you will need to have:
- a minimum of two years post admission experience;
- experience in providing advice and representing clients across a broad range of Family Law issues (including property and parenting matters);
- experience in attending court and briefing Counsel;
- excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- well-developed organisation and time management skills;
- strong attention to detail;
- a desire to broaden your network;
- the ability to work both within a team and autonomously; and
- the desire to make a positive impact.
