Your Opportunity
The Family Worker role will serve as a Women and Childrens Advocate and this is a key function within Mission Australia's Mannin' Up program. Mannin' Up is an accredited Men's Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) operating across Central and Far West NSW. The primary purpose of this program is to ensure the safety of women and children.
The MBCP helps men to identify their abuse, manage their emotions, and understand their attitudes and beliefs toward women and relationships. The program is delivered in a group setting with some individual case management where participants are provided with education, support, strategies, and referrals to other services. The Women and Childrens Advocate provides direct support to partners and ex-partners (including their children) of program participants.
This role is responsible for providing safety and support services to meet the immediate needs of women and children with a particular focus on providing risk assessment, case management, support, referral, and information and includes supporting children as victims in their own right through the (ex) partners.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough and robust risk assessments in line with relevant risk assessment frameworks.
- Develop safety plans and liaise with key stakeholders including NSW Police.
- Respond to referrals and ensure that all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Provide advocacy, referral, information, support, and case management to families experiencing violence.
- Build relationships with clients built on honesty and trust while maintaining personal and professional boundaries.
- Work cooperatively to raise community awareness of family violence.
- Ensure the safety of children is foremost in all case planning, actions and thinking.
Requirements for Success
With a significant background in the child, youth & family and/or FDV sectors, you will be confident in your case management and assessment processes. Other requirements include:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Cert IV or higher) in Community Services, Social Work, or other relevant discipline and demonstrated work experience working within the Family and Domestic Violence sector.
- Strong understanding of Domestic and Family Violence sector, including current legislation and the Strategic Plan for Family and Domestic Violence, Child Protection, and the requirements of the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act, and other key legislative reforms
- Demonstrated experience in engaging and working therapeutically with woman and children in a variety of settings including refuges.
- Experience working within a child safe model of practice including an understanding of the definitions and indicators of child abuse and neglect.
- Familiarity of working with families with complex issues and needs relating to domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health.
- Exceptional time management & organisational skills.
- Full driver licence with no restrictions.
- Senior First Aid Certificate
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
