Project Communications Australia (PCA) specialise in integrating the latest communications technology and infrastructure to provide turnkey communications solutions for Mining, Oil & Gas and Renewables industries.
We are looking for a Communications Technician to complement our growing team. This position is an important customer facing role involving the deployment of network, entertainment and communications services as well as the support of PCA and other 3rd party camp and mining related technologies. The position is a permanent technical role that entails both remote onsite and workshop-based tasks.
Responsibilities will include:
- Practice safety compliance at all times
- Pre-staging of fibre and data hardware e.g. GPON ONT's, WAPs and AP's
- Assist in the set up and testing of routers, switches and WAP’s.
- Camp data wiring i.e. fibre, CAT6 and Coax
- Installation and setup of Entertainment head-end units
- Complete reports as required e.g. site and commissioning reports
- Assist in supporting customers, diagnosing network and system faults, both remote and onsite
- Setup and commissioning of communication trailers to support 2-way radio, Cel-Fi, Satellite, Microwave and Wi-Fi

- Valid Australian Drivers License
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
- Able to interpret network diagrams
- Detail oriented
- Ability to effectively time manage
- Strong telecommunications technical ability
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Able to travel domestically
Required experience
- Communications Technician Trade qualification or equivalent experience
- Optical Fibre and aerial cabling experience
- Assembly of integrated technology systems
- Large scale structured cabling experience
- WAP and AP installation, configuration and testing
- Familiar with Microsoft suite applications
- Basic IT skills
Any of the following will be highly regarded:
- MATV, Foxtel, VAST and VSAT satellite installation experience
- Performing fibre cable splicing and terminations
- Broadband, optical fibre and aerial cabling license (ACMA)
- Working knowledge of RUKUS, Cisco Meraki and other Wi-Fi products
- Experience with Microwave installations
- Experience with mobile radio installations and commissioning
- Experience with CCTV and access control and security systems
- Current First Aid certificate
- Exposure in mining or construction environments
