Working closely with the Group Planning & Analysis Manager, you will partner with business leaders and provide high-quality financial information, reports, analysis and performance advice to the finance team, business, and its leaders fostering a culture of strong financial stewardship in the business.
Playing a pivotal role in supporting our financial management and strategic decision-making processes, your primary focus will be partnering with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure effective grant accounting, financial planning, analysis, acquittals, and reporting.
As a trusted advisor, you will contribute to the delivery of the strategy, proactively identifying risks, and leading and promoting solutions by being customer focused.
Alongside the Leadership team; you will be responsible for operationalising the annual budget, apply expertise and judgment to identify and evaluate financial risks and opportunities.
- Grant Accounting Expertise: Utilise your extensive experience in grant accounting to manage the financial aspects of grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements, accurate tracking of expenses, and timely acquittal reporting to funders. Contribute to reporting requirements including Audits.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Collaborate with program managers and department heads to develop and monitor budgets, program costing, forecasts, and financial performance metrics. Provide insightful analysis to support decision-making and identify opportunities for operational efficiency. Use data and analysis to identify and escalate budget risks and opportunities and contribute to an insight driven and evidence-based approach including clear management reporting regarding financial performance, budget expenditure and forecasts.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Function as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, including program managers, and executive leadership. Provide financial guidance, interpretation of financial data, and strategic recommendations to support program goals, financial needs of Funders and broader organisational objectives.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and funding guidelines, including the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) regulations. Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, other funders, the Executive and Board.
- Process Improvement: Continuously review and enhance financial processes, controls, and systems to streamline operations, improve accuracy, and enhance transparency. Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency gains to support scalability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing across departments, particularly regarding finance policies, practices, plans, risks and/or issues, supporting stakeholders to make effective decisions about their business units. Contribute to a culture of financial literacy and accountability throughout Diabetes Australia.
- Bachelor's qualification in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualification (CA, CPA, CIMA).
- 5+ years' experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes and reporting in a financial partner capacity and an understanding of the application of accounting principles.
- Previous experience in a Not-for-Profit organisation with a proven record of effectively managing grants, including budgeting, compliance, and acquittal reporting.
- Strong understanding of how to develop, analyse, evaluate, report on and present financial performance metrics whilst working to strict deadlines and time constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise tasks. A sense of urgency, commitment to deadlines and reporting timeframes coupled with a critical evaluation style toward continuous improvement.
- Proven record of leveraging technical tools to manipulate large datasets, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to key stakeholders, supporting strategic business initiatives and driving financial performance.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Suite for data analysis, financial modelling, and reporting, including Power Query and Power BI.
- High quality written and verbal communication skills including briefings notes, reports, and presentations. Demonstrated experience and capability in communicating financial information to non-finance managers.
- Strong ability to communicate, build rapport and influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong problem solving, negotiation and influencing skills and the capacity to impart skills and knowledge to others
