Finance Officer - Nambour Community Centre

  • Permanent part-time position SCHADS Lv 4 or 5 depending on experience, with excellent salary packaging benefits

Organisational Environment 

The Nambour Community Centre Inc. has been operating since 1980 and had its genesis in The Meeting Place – a grassroots self-help centre open to all members of the community founded by a group of like-minded community members who came together to learn new methods and ways of supporting each other in community projects.  As a result of this enthusiasm and proactive approach to issues within the community the Department of Family Services began provided funding to the Nambour Community Centre in 1987. In 1998, Nambour Community Centre Inc was born along with a new building that still houses the centre today. The first AGM was held in November 1999, and since that period, NCC has gone from strength to strength by taking a developmental approach to its community and the delivery of its programs. 

Nambour Community Centre (NCC) is a registered charity with Public Benevolent Institution status and is a founding member of the Sunshine Coast Community Cooperative.  

NCC employs around 15 staff, has ~20+ volunteers and has a revenue budget approximating $1.1m. Our programs include: Multicultural Connections Sunshine Coast, Thriving Families and Community Development.  

The geographical area that the Nambour Community Centre works in include Nambour, Yandina, Bli Bli, Eumundi, Woombye, Palmwoods and the broader Sunshine Coast for its migrant services.  

Additionally, Nambour Community Centre (NCC) provides a space and infrastructure to ‘host’ volunteers who deliver programs that share their skills and experiences with other members of the community.   

NCC also offers affordable community access room rentals – NCC provides a variety of quality low-cost rooms for community groups, other agencies and businesses to conduct their activities  

Nambour Community Centre programs are currently funded by: Local State and Federal government departments.  

Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Centre Manager (with Management Committee oversight), your key responsibilities will include:

  • Management and operation of the financial systems of NCC, efficient and accountable processing of data, reconciliation and management of the Xero Accounting System and Excel spreadsheets. 
  • Preparation and provision of accurate monthly reports to finance committee, treasurer and program managers including; P/L, B/S, budget analysis; cash flow and recording end of month accruals and prepayments. 
  • Preparation and lodgement financial reports including: EOM and EOFY reports; financial returns for funding agencies; ACNC return; BAS and IAS; Q-Leave returns; relevant acquittals (P2i and funded programs). 
  •  Processing and management of invoices, accounts payable, accounts receivable and monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts and petty cash.
  • Management of payroll including accurate processing of fortnightly wages, superannuation, portable LSL, salary packaging and annual leave. 
  • Management of the Insurance profile including annual review. 
  • Management and updating of the banking profile and the preparation of files as required for all NCC bank accounts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to drive and contribute to process improvement and maintenance of financial systems and procedures. 
  • Member of Finance Committee and participation in relevant working groups including the development of annual budgets for approval and support of grant application budgets. 
  • Preparing documentation and liaising with external auditor to assist with the preparation of statutory audited accounts. 
  • Participate in WH&S safety audits and HSQF (Human Services Quality Framework) audits.  
  • Completing relevant inputs into the organisation’s compliance calendar 
  • Preparation and lodgement of quarterly BAS and monthly IAS
  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with team and community stakeholders.  

To undertake this role, you will require a relevant qualification in accounting or financial management, a minimum of 3 years experience in the Not for Profit sector with demonstrated experience working alongside teams, have a current Queensland driver’s license and hold a current Working with Children Positive Notice (blue card). To be successful in your application you will need to provide a maximum 2 page written response (and current CV) to the following selection criteria:

  1. Minimum Cert 1V in Financial Services or Business Administration and a minimum 3 years experience in NFP sector with demonstrated experience working alongside teams.  
  2. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Xero including payroll, AP, AR and reporting. 
  3. Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, Auditing Standards and tax legislations
  4. Good experience with budget management, cash flow projections and management reporting.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a positive, can-do attitude, works well in a team environment with the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including community members and non-financial managers.
  6. Blue Card (or ability to get one) and current C class drivers license.
