About Us
In 1913, a young Australian woman, Eileen O’Connor, and Father Ted McGrath began their mission from premises in Dudley St, Coogee. Both shared a deep devotion to Our Lady and the desire to establish a ministry of compassionate service to the sick poor in their own homes.
In 1953, Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor was officially recognised as a diocesan congregation and today, the Sisters and Brown Nurses, an independent ministry of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor, continue to assist the sick, poor and disadvantaged in Sydney, Newcastle and Minto.
On 1 July 2017, Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor came under the governance of the Congregational Leader and Council of the Sisters of Charity of Australia, ensuring the charism of Eileen O’Connor and the legacy of the Brown Nurses is carried into the future.
Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor is seeking an experienced Financial Administrator to join their small but passionate team, to manage their financial affairs and lead their administration.
About the Role
Reporting to the Congregational Leader, you will provide efficient and effective financial and administration support to the ministry of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor.
You will administer the temporal goods of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor in accordance with Canon Law, the constitutions of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor and Australian Civil Law.
You will be responsible for the full spectrum of accounting functions, including preparation of budgets, financial reports, monthly IAS and BAS, and annual FBT returns; and will manage the annual external audit.
You will maintain a schedule of investments and liaise with the organisation’s Investment Advisers regarding current investments and future strategies.
You will oversight the workplace compliance functions, including HR and work health and safety, ensure appropriate insurances are in place, and be responsible for the organisation’s vehicle fleet, property maintenance and information and communications technology (ICT).
Using your strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Bursar, Trustees, staff, auditors, advisory committee, financial institutions and service providers.
The role is part-time, three days a week and is office-based in Coogee.
About You
Your experience in a similar, financial role is key to this position. Just as important is your demonstrated ability to manage a range of office support functions, including ICT, property maintenance, motor vehicles, insurances, HR and WHS.
Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following Key Requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, e.g. Accounting, Finance, Business (or related discipline) or equivalent experience
- Minimum five years’ experience in managing accounts and administration
- Knowledge of day-to-day financial and accounting tasks in Australian corporations including payroll, budgets and superannuation
- Knowledge of audit procedures and financial, HR and WHS compliance requirements
- Practical understanding of information and communications systems as relevant to this organisation
- High level communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage external relationships with financial and other institutions
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff and to work both independently and as part of a team.
