The opportunity
The Finance Teams in the Finance and Pay Services Branch provides critical functions to support the day to day and future operations of ASIO. We are seeking experienced Management Accountants, Finance Business Partners, Financial Officers and Financial Accountants.
You will be enthusiastic team players with a finance background who is self-motivated, willing to learn and have a desire for continuous improvement.
As a dedicated team player, you will have a confident and approachable manner with excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport. Your administrative and organisational skills, along with your attention to detail will ensure the Finance Branch achieves its deliverables. You will have an ability to lead, train, mentor and support junior team members within the team.
The Finance and Pay Services Branch is a busy and dynamic environment where innovation and business process improvement are encouraged.
Location
These positions are located in Canberra. ASIO provides financial relocation support for interstate relocation.
The key duties of the position include
Role responsibilities
Management Accountant - Several Roles (AE5 and AE6 levels)
As a Management Accountant, your duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Business Partnering to assist with the analysis of client area business results through the budget, forecast, and month end processes.
  • Leading meetings with client area stakeholders to support their understanding of financial reports and advice, including preparing and delivering any supplementary reports or advice to strengthen their decision-making.
  • Coordinating and maintaining the Organisation's external budget, preparation of external budget documentation including, Portfolio Budget Statements and Portfolio Additional Estimates Statements.
  • Preparation of Department of Finance monthly and annual reporting and entry of results into Central Budget Management System (CBMS).
  • Coordinating costings and advice for New Policy Proposals (NPP's) including, liaising with external agencies and stakeholders on NPP's.
  • Supervise, mentor, and actively assist junior staff through development of the Finance Business Partners team to build their skills and technical knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development of relevant operating and Accounting policies and procedures.
  • Fostering a collaborative and supportive culture of teamwork within the Branch, Division and across the whole of ASIO.
Finance Officers - Several Roles (AE5 and AE6 levels)
In the Finance Services team, your duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Processing and administering financial transactions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash transactions, corporate credit cards and purchase orders.
  • Undertake month end processes (including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts) to deliver internal and external reporting.
  • Assisting with end of year financial statements, including preparation of various financial statement notes and supporting work papers for audit.
  • Taxation processing and reporting requirements including GST, FBT returns.
  • Providing advice, support and/or training on financial matters, accounting policies and procedures, statutory reporting, and taxation matters.
  • Contributing to the development of relevant operating and Accounting policies and procedures.
  • Participating in the development of new practices and procedures to streamline processes and develop new and innovative ways of working.
  • Supervising, guiding and mentoring junior staff within the Finance and Procurement Branch.
What you will bring
We invite applications from people with the following general attributes:
  • A logical mind with strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and an aptitude for finance related tasks.
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience, specifically; Excel spreadsheet manipulation for budget management, costing, data analysis and reporting.
  • At the AE6 level, experience in managing and coaching staff.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and liaison skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly effective and flexible work prioritisation skills, including the ability to maintain a forward work program, meet deadlines, and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
Key Skills / Qualifications:
Management Accountant (AE5 and AE6 levels)
  • Strong interpersonal and liaison skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to and use a range of software.
  • Prior experience (commensurate with level) in a relevant area.
  • Understanding of Commonwealth budgeting processes is desirable (for management accounting roles).
  • Accounting (or equivalent) tertiary qualification, and working towards Certified Practicing Account (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) - Level 6.
  • Financial / Accounting experience desirable - Level 5.
Finance Officers (AE5 and 6 levels)
  • Attention to detail in the processing of high volume, complex transactions.
  • Ability to adapt to and use a range of software.
  • Prior experience (commensurate with level) in a relevant finance related area.
  • Accounting (or equivalent) tertiary qualification, and working towards a Certified Practising Account (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) - Level 6.
  • Financial / Accounting experience desirable - Level 5.
