Financial Controller

Full-time, ongoing role

International Grammar School (IGS) is a vibrant, secular, coeducational school situated across five sites in Ultimo, Glebe and Kangaroo Valley. There are 1300 students from Preschool to Year 12 being educated in a unique bilingual environment. 

We are seeking to appoint an exemplary and suitably qualified Financial Controller, commencing as soon as practicable.

The Financial Controller has the primary responsibility for supporting the Head of Finance to build and maintain optimal financial management, control and compliance across all aspects of the School’s operations. This is done through providing control expertise, technical advice and robust financial reporting to drive high performance and strategic decision making for a strong and sustainable school. 

As the Financial Controller you will have:

• relevant tertiary accounting qualifications that confers status as a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA)
• a comprehensive understanding of the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll functions, the Modern Awards and relevant Multi-Enterprise Agreements
• extensive experience in building complex financial reporting and analysis, budget/forecast preparation and analysis, KPI reporting and analysis on emerging strategic issues
• competency in MS Office and integrated accounting software in the preparation of financial reports.

• experience in working at a complex strategic and operational level in all areas of finance
• outstanding accuracy, attention to detail and well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as thorough propriety and honesty in all areas
• flexibility and adaptability to changing needs, with excellent time management skills
• excellent people management skills, overseeing a small, diverse team and interacting with relevant school stakeholders
• ability to work independently with minimal supervision and eagerness to learn
• the flexibility and sound judgement to deal with unexpected situations and remain calm under pressure
• qualities such as resilience, patience, respect, integrity and the courage to identify and address areas for improvement.

Experience in a school or educational environment will be highly regarded, though not essential.
