First Nations Senior Community Capacity Building (CCB) Lead

BSL is working in partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver the NDIS across metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The First Nations Senior Community Capacity Building (CCB) Lead drives the development, implementation and evaluation of the division’s Community Capacity Building projects with local Aboriginal Communities that aim to create more inclusive and respectful communities for people with disabilities.

The First Nations CCB Senior Lead works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders; including people from the Aboriginal Community with lived experience of disability and or/developmental delay, to plan and deliver co-design projects within local communities.

This position is identified for Aboriginal people and exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

  • Development of First Nations specific Community Capacity Building Projects and assisting with related community engagement activities.  
  • Work closely with local Aboriginal communities to;
    • identify barriers to access and inclusion,
    • Identify local assets
    • Identify key actions to achieve change
    • Mobilise communities to plan and deliver sustainable initiatives.
  • Engage a range of stakeholders from ACCO’s, disability, local communities, local governments, NDIA and internal BSL programs to ensure a coordinated approach to enable placed based and partnership focused Community Capacity Building initiatives.
  • Lead the planning, development and delivery of initiatives that promote diversity, inclusion and cultural security in local communities.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships, in collaboration with leadership, First Nations Engagement Lead and teams.

IS THIS YOU?

We seek applicants who have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and social ways of life
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with Melbourne’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Communities
  • Existing relationships with First Nations community groups, and capacity to further develop these in BSL NDIS service areas
  • Demonstrated experience relevant to the community/disability sector.
  • Experience with highly accountable processes that are subject to external review
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continual service improvements.
  • Highly developed administrative and professional writing skills.
