Overall Purpose of the Job

To Manage, execute and monitor equipment and labour resources to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Fleet team/s and associated tasks. This position requires a person with a high level of management and interpersonal skills, with the ability and willingness to lead and motivate peers. An intimate knowledge of relevant road legislation and equipment is also essential for this role. It requires an alert, business-oriented person who is able to maximise opportunities through timely decision making, awareness of cost control, innovative thinking and preparedness to handle all tasks in a conscientious, values driven manner. The position carries a responsibility for all aspects of all fleet operations and maintenance that should be conducted in a safe, efficient manner with a high level of service. You will need to be passionate about being at the forefront of change, you're ready to be part of our transformation team helping the business move forward through change.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of appropriate equipment and staffing, including recruitment to maximise use of equipment, labour and warehousing.

  • Ensure that there is a robust plan in place for succession planning, including recruitment. Manage sustainability of the department and be engaged with the sustainability of the business.

  • In conjunction with Team Leaders ensure full utilisation of vehicles and to the safe and secure methods of accomplishing loading in an efficient and effective manner

  • Manage the flow through process for all vehicle movements in and out of the depot.

  • Manage and review labour requirements in conjunction with Team Leaders and department managers to ensure appropriate coverage of daily and seasonal peaks of freight demands on all shifts.

  • Ensure that all reporting methods (spreadsheets etc) are maintained for daily/weekly KPI analysis.

  • Ensure that all vehicles are maintained and serviced in accordance with required service intervals.

  • Constantly review linehaul and local fleet process to establish best practise for safety and efficiencies.

  • Manage through Team Leaders all linehaul movements, pickups and deliveries.

  • Ensure clear and effective UHF communication is maintained. Address any issues with non-conforming UHF use and record and actions relating to this.

  • Ensure all operators observe all site safety rules and procedures.

  • Ensure that drivers comply with traffic management, loading and unloading requirements whilst on site.

  • Participate and drive recruitment relating to your reports and ensure site inductions and all training modules are completed prior to new employees participating in activities unassisted.

  • Liaise with site Managers to ensure best use of the labour and equipment pool.

  • Be involved in any project work that is appropriate to your position and skill set as required by senior management.

  • Monitor and ensure all operators work within the legislated work hours (Standard or Basic Fatigue Management)

  • Perform audits to ensure that all company operators and contractors utilised have current licenses (Forklift and Vehicle)

  • Ensure that operators are vigilant checking load restraint on all
